well that regulations pdf does not state that it has to stay the stock size. What i would fight it with is that a larger exhaust gets better gas mileage and allows for a much cleaner burn as there is a little more retention time due to the extra space with a high flow cat.
I believe that the cop looked at my exhaust tip and that's what he went by because it's a 4.5 inch hahn tip but it's still a 3 inch in and out muffler from borla so I would probably get away with it

widened means if the outlet is wider than the inlet. it says nothing about stock size. it's all about interpretation and everyone's is different.
and he wrote that 73 (3) section is the one I violated with the window tint lol now unless they have a completely different one than what is available to the public then I'd say that he screwed up

jon if you read the packaging for any aftermarket part, doesn't matter what it is, headlights, exhaust, supercharger kit. they all say "for off-road use only". this is how aftermarket companies can continue operating legally because they put that on the packaging. and in some cases i've seen it stamped right on the part itself.

Headlights are DOT approved so they aren't for off road use only. A magnaflow exhaust does not say its for off road use only.
It's only stated when you choose to run no cat that they say that. At least that's what zzp's website says

with exhaust aftermarket parts that are for performance they tell you to check with your local laws to check to see if its legal or not in your area.
if its 100% OEM replacement then there is no need to worry.
magnaflow for instance has it on their site. granted this one is directed towards the US for part of it but the same goes for all other aftermarket manufacturers

hahn's website is pretty vague when it comes to that, only specifically mentions california as being legal to be sold only for race vehicles and not for public highways

and back to the headlights, if im not mistaken (and i could be) all the aftermarket housings reuse the stock lens which would have the DOT approved embedded on it but because its been modified, no longer meets DOT approval
example. when i modified my stock lights and took them apart, i voided the DOT certification when i did that.
