well i have a bit of good news and bit of bad news and a hopefull future....

i had a interesting afternoon, the guy i work with at mr.d's has a friend who bought a cobalt....
he asked me to come over to have a look at the car..... so i said ok cool lets go..... i arrive to walk in his garage and see a beautiful blurple lsj..... low and behold i walked into tjay's old car......

BAD NEWS ISSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the motor is blown.......................

however the good news is the guy who owns the car now seems to be a cool guy..... he is younger and honestly he had no clue what he has..... he bought the car off a dealer and they told him nothing, if they even knew.... well many possible scenerio's possibly could have happened needless to say whats done is done.... he had no clue this car had a built motor nor did he know whats normal for these cars.... he didnt even know he had option b..... he just ran it.... well something wrong and now he has to pull the motor apart.... he wants to learn more of the car and his possible options are, so expect to see a new face on the site and at the meets.... my friend say he has a good job and has some savings up to help pay for the parts..... so it looks like we have gained tjays old car back in the mix..... he isnt sure if he wants to go tvs or turbo swap..... but i told him he needs to do some searching on threads and decide for himself..... i expect shortly we will know what went wrong and he can go from there....

i find this to be exciting news..... and i think he has a good level of respect.... now i gotta message tjay to find out what he left in the car.....

this is a major bummer...

I wonder how badly abused the car was driven to blow up the built engine!?!!?

I'm pretty sure I saw it on 52nd around New Brighton... but this was already a while ago.

maybe I misunderstood something, did you grenade it, or was it bought this way?

Do you live in the New Brighton area?

Welcome to CSS btw!

Feel free to look up the group GM Tuners of Calgary on Facebook btw - we try to organize local meets & what not on there...

he accidently gernaded it.... he was in wot in 4th went to shift into 5th but hit 3rd.... booooooom thats the bottom line.... yes thats the area he is from..... i am sure the car was not well maintained in between tjay selling it and downshift buying it.... i believe it was at a crappy dealer for awhile.... thus probally was bagged.... i have already sent tjay a pm to ask him what was in the car when it was sold.... that way we can start to rebuild this once monster back to a form it was more accustom too..... the guy seems cool and wants to learn about these cars and his options.... i dont believe the appropriate guages were not in the car, and downshift had no idea the motor was built...... it is on a stock sc setup.... with no tell tale signs of upgraded anything... the only thing that would make you think twice was the option b tank, and exhaust setup..... which both are easily overlooked....

I still have the aftermarket boost gauge which Tjay used to run in that car - he swapped me for a stocker (which I did out of courtesy more than anything else)...
IIRC the pillar with boost gauge were mine, as well as the gauge surrond - both of which Tjay got me replacements for at a later date.

I love blue cars...

That sucks on the accidental grenade!

@ Downshift - how high was it mis-shifted at!!!?!

...I'd still jump at hte opportunity to race my Grand Am against a stock LSJ.

if i heard correct lets just say the miss shift was not good hahahahahah.... im thinking 6000-6500 hahahahha.... hey we have all goobered a shift before....

thx tjay for your quick reply i will forward the info.....

@downshift i talked to another friend and he said maybe spun the bearings too.... if this is the case it may not be as bad as we first talked about.... you may not need sleeves..... but that would all be up to you on what you wanna build and your desired goals with this car....

i top out in 3rd at 170ish which is like 7000rpm. and ive been to the top of 4th which was just shy of 240. take a bit off the top since iirc tops at 6500rpm. im still willing to bet 6500rpm in 4th is north of 200

When I was stock I did quite a few runs to 220. Had to run 4th all the way out with a slight decline to get there. Changing the power doesn't change the speed in each gear. It just changed how fast you get there

like jon says it shouldnt change as no one has really messed with gearing

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/driv...D-speed-66776/

and you get this at 7000rpms....
1st gear top speed 39mph
2nd gear top speed 75mph
3rd gear top speed 112mph
4th gear top speed 148mph
5th gear top speed 188mph

i played around with that calculator. its pretty sweet. 6500rpm is 220km/h and 6000 is 204km/h

i knew it would be north of 200
