It's stock gm bearings you use. When you get them out you will notice connecting rods had Tangs recut. This was due to zzp error and I had to get machine shop to recut and fix

Might want to do leak down test and ensure top end is good as well ( you may have bent a valve or tore a seal with sudden down shift.

@jrmotosport hey man you got that motor in your back yard what's the bottom end on it like would it be possibly worth it to score the bearings out of it or would they be grooved to that crank and not good for a swap ?

please don't take offence by any correction.

if you spin rod bearings, odds are the crank end of the connecting rods will need to be resized;
if there is sufficient scoring to the crank (sometimes you can simply polish it) then the crank will need to be reground.

- to pull rods, the top end must come off.
- to pull the crank the transmission has to come out.
- you can polish the crank with the short block in place, and transmission in place.

odds are regrinding or resizing what you have will be cheaper than buying new, shipping from the USA, and dealing with duty/brokerage... it just will be more time consuming.

once again, if something cheap/quick might be preferred, it might be most economical to buy a replacement motor (if one can be sourced in AB) - but Tjay gad some choice parts in that engine.

even if it was there, you NEVER swap used bearings from one engine to another.

car-part.com

i think the best local yard for cobalt parts is forest lawn auto parts.

your engine was specific to 2004-2007 Saturn Ion Redline & 2005-2007 Chev. Cobalt SS/Supercharged.

if i am looking for engine parts, most local retailers no longer stock stuff - as long as you've triple checked your measurements I can give you a shop to call about sourcing parts.
No need to buy "GM" parts for your engine - that's just paying a premium for parts being sold in a GM box.

Well Sean thinks its just a main bearing not a rod bearing but I'm just gonna change them all out while I got it apart but we will know more tomorrow night when we really get in there and check it out and no offense taken I'm the rookie hear I would rather any suggestions or advice I can get

Love it
so then you're looking at pulling the top end, then the piston/rod assemblies to get the rods resized.

if you've spun bearing(s), please don't waste your time/money on changing out bearings without resizing the rod.

did you do a compression test, as suggested, before you dropped your pan?
(I sure hope so)

Maybe Tjay can chime in about how to go about setting (or how much of a pita it is to set) the timing chain.

main bearings are only needed when things go really wrong, or the crank is pulled/resized - the rods are the first think to go - this is the way ALL engines are designed.

to pull main bearings you need to pull the transmission to drop out the crank.

ya i dont have motor anymore, besides as stated already never swap out bearings to put used ones in....

there is a big diff in correcting someone, as to 3 people jumping down someones throat for something that was completely UNIMPORTANT!!!! besides if you didnt read it correct we were all wrong.... even at that number i believe is too high too.... the car was governed at 225.... you think about that....

besides that since when did i take offense i would just go over to all your houses and slap you around before offense was taking....

good.

I know I come off overly cereal at times, but you seem to at times take offense...

@ Will;
Technical talk is fun

@Downshift;
If you need other assistance I'm sure that Jon or myself can pop by.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE - what ever you do, don't take apart the bottom end without doing a compression test.
(you never clarified if this was done).

There's an old addage I earnestly try to stick to:
KISS
Keep
It
Simple
Stupid

If you jump to worst case scenarios (as I often have tended to do) - you can get in over your head in what could have been a realatively easy/cheap fix.

also, can anyone tell me if O2 sensors are covered under the (limited) powertrain warranty?

I think mine's on it's way out...

I do have a spare *somewhere*, but if I can get a new one, installed for free, I'd be all over it.

meth has been in the back of my mind for a while, and it has nothing to do with competition... it's all in good fun.

If I was ever worried about an LSJ laying the smack down on me, I would have never agreed to this;
