that would be me

If you'ld like a tune, I'd encourage you to talk to me and have it ordered before uou get here, that way we can get the tune flashed, book a time with Vince to do his virtual-live deal to get a datalog to him, and get him to immediately look at it, and do any required changed for your car.

you will probably be fine.

we can datalog, and get Vince to check it, but unlike boosted cars where a CAI can drastiaclly affect the way incoming air charge get's measured, a naturally aspirated engine doesn't generally need to get a new tune for this.

I'd suspect that since you're already dataloged, that you would have to change something mechanical on your engine to necessitate a change to your tune.

Jonathan:
I always forget this **** when we talk, but will the tune eliminate my CEL?
I've had the p0420 (I think) code since shortly after I got my downpipe. It's the one for catalytic converter inefficient blah blah.

Vince started a new policy - I can ask, but am unsure if he will or not;

Please read below for information regarding policy change on tunes that require codes to be turned off. This information can also be found here: DTC What’s changing? Effective 02/25/2013, all Trifecta tunes provided will have all emission control related Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and OBD2 Readiness Monitors set to the original settings that were supplied with the vehicle from the factory.
I believe that when I update my EzFlash (trifecta software) that I can manually delete codes as required, but quite frankly I'd encourage everyone to get their car to a point where no DTC/SES codes are present.
For example, my tune has absolutely ZERO codes disabled, and I'm running catless.

A high flow cat or catless downpour will cause the P0420 code. It's a O2 bank fault as the first O2 sensor can't get a good enough reading or heat up properly with the above normal than stock flow of exhaust. Just gives another reason to find someone with hpt

nope.

I am catless, I do not have any codes deleted from my tune (this was intentional) - and I do not get an error code.

Codes are triggered when the computer thinks it sees something wrong;
In the case of any O2 sensor readings - an O2 sensor is a ceramic temperature sensor;
The ECM looks for temperature variance to identify if the fuel mixture is right.
The main way of fooling an ECM into thinking all is well without any cat, is to draw the secondary O2 far enough out of the exhaust flow to get the correct temperature variance - but not too far that the temp variance is too great.
In my Cobalt's case, it was a matter of getting a defouler.
With my Grand Am, I needed to relocate my O2 to get proper readings after going with a long tube header.

Just one more reason to not go through Vince anymore. I got my first "canned" tune from him when I bought the car.. then installed intake and waited 5 months for a revised tune. I still have that tune, and after adding all that I have, I data logged and we emailed Vince the numbers and waited for a new tune. I asked for aggressive, and made sure it was on 94 to be properly tuned. Got back an email 2 days later, saying that the tune was maxed out and he couldnt do anything for me. I call bullshit on that. HpT, here I come.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying your wrong but if my ECM only throws a code every now and again with my longtube and a high flow cat, then I think your statement needs tweaking. O2 sensors don't read just temperature, they take both the concentration of oxygen and temperature. If its just a temp sensor then why's it called an o2 sensor? I'm not saying that the regular narrow band sensors are a wide and but a exhaust temperature sensor makes more sense than an o2 sensor right? Lol

peter, grab a defouler and that should be good.

now if vince does send back a revised tune for the intake, does that mean that he will "turn on" my P0420 code that he tuned out, or will it be the same as it is now?

You're right. I should of gotten one when I got my header and downpipe, but I never bothered. I got my codes checked and cleared several times, but the cel always returns I after a week or so. But now as I start drastically changing my car, it's a good idea to have it off for when a new issue turns up.

Does anyone know a place in town where to get them? I know they're all over the internet, but why wait 2 weeks if I can get it tomorow.

nope

just left.

I might be a little off on some of hte newer O2 sensors, maybe they do more these days;
to the best of my knowledge the only difference betwwen a current O2 sensor, and an older one is this;
older design = 1 wire; ceramic coated resis resistor only; behind metal shielding.
newer design = multi-wire; same as before, but now include heating element so that it can get up to ideal operating temps even faster.

From my understanding it "senses oxygen" purely by the heat range that the exhaust is in;
hotter = leaner mixture (higher oxygen content)
cooler = richer mixture (lower oxygen content)

My experiance with long tube headers is that they all require either the O2 sensor be relocated (which often require trial and error), or they need to be a preheated design - in order to avoid false errors.

So unless you have trucker friends (ect) that you want ot converse with - I suspect that you won't find too many people with CB's these days.

Which begs the question;
In this day & age of distracted drivers laws;
talking (let alone texting) on a cell phone is punishable by steep fines;
talking on CB's isn't...

Would anyone care to explain this to me?

Maybe we should all devise a method of creating fake CB's, so that we can talk on our cell phones without fear of the law coming down on us...

or we could do like I believe you were supposed to do back in the day, and leave CB conversations to the passenger.
im exempt when using the work "radio" (which is really a phone on a cord )
also exempt from wearing a seat belt.................
