Hey Mark......I can come by and you can see where I installed my sending unit. They are the same whether it is the electric or the mechanical boost gauge.

its really simple just cut the vaccum hose and put a T-fitting in. then attach the vaccum hose back to both sides of the t fitting and with the remaining side of the t-fitting just attach the hose from there to the back of the gauge and voila! just like everybody else id reccomend getting the braided hose and t-fitting from mopac, it looks alot better and works better then the silicone one. i think i still have all the part numbers if you need them

Sweet. That's something I seem to remember reading a while back that the stock hose cracked easy or something.

Thanks for the infos trav.

Lag is more the transition from when the turbo starts to provide power. If you have a low compression engine that runs about 15 psi or so and has full boost by 3500 rpm, you'll notice a lot of lag. However, if you have a high compression engine, running about 8 psi with full boost by 3500 rpm, the lag will be a lot less noticeable. It's not so much when the boost adds power, but, how much power it will add compared to the power while out of boost.

With the LE5 having a compression ratio of 10.4:1 and not being designed for boost, I suspect you won't be able to safely run much more than 8 psi on pump gas. So... with a high compression ratio, and low boost, there won't be much boost lag in this application.

In order to run more boost, the compression ratio would have to be lowered and at that point, power out of boost will be less. In this scenario, with a compression ratio of around 9:1 (just to put in a number) and running about 15 psi, if full boost was achieved by 3500 rpm, boost lag would be noticeable.

So, boost lag is not just where the turbo spools in the rpm, but the rate of change in acceleration over a period of time. Having a turbo that is too big is just about as useful as having a turbo that is too small. The turbo has to be properly matched to the engine.

Just my opinion for whatever it's worth!

haha thanks for the lesson in turbos ed

there are a few cobalts using the 16g turbo, and it matches the engine pretty well from what ive read..

Personally, I think that is a good choice in turbo's. Not sure how'd you tune it. But, I suspect that with a decent tune at 8 psi, your car should be able to run very low 14's or maybe even high 13's. What size intercooler pipes are you going with and how big of an intercooler will you have? Even just going with pipes that are too big or an oversized intercooler can cause lag. I can't remember the exact air speed you want through the intercooler pipes, but there is a calculations based on CFM and air speed to determine the best intercooler pipe size. If you have a massive intercooler, and 3" pipes, that poor turbo has to fill everything before you achieve boost. That alone can create lag.

Keep in mind the Talon's and Eclipse's that ran the 16g were only a 2.0L. A lot of those guys even went to the 20g turbo!

If you haven't read Corky Bell's "Maximum Boost" you really, really should. That will answer all your turbo questions.

every friday night at secret street at race city speedway in Calgary, you are more than welcome to check it out, it's TONS of fun and sry just does NOT compare to the pathedic 1/4mile......I just wish they had longer courses around here. Even if your new to auto-x or don't know the course that well you will still have fun. My first night i out I was running too low of PSI and ended up taking out alot of cones cause I didn't know the course but I still had more fun than ever b4. Swaybars and aggresive alignments are your best friends in auto-x, support that with wider aggresive tires and proper PSI and you'll be flyin thru the course
