this is true, however when you have a place to stay for cheap all you really have to cover is rent, which is apparently low for him.
if you were living on your own however you will need over $20/hr...

renting and yes I have a roommate but I've known him for 15 years and we are good friends. I'm not saying renting is the perfect option but just pointing out that YES you can survive decently on $17/h here.

Granted.......but you are renting and sharing an apartment.

Try owning a house with that wage. Say you buy a house for $400,000....your mortgage payment would be somewhere around $2800/mth. Plus all the other goodies that come with owning a house such as Gas, Electricity, Phone, Internet, TV, water, sewer. Plus food, gas, car payment, cellphone, etc. It takes a lot of money to be able to own a house on your own here in Alberta, and $17/hr would not cut it. I get paid upwards of $40/hr and that gives me quite a bit of room to do other things such as trips and other things. And I own my own house at the above price and I am paying everything else stated above. It really adds up quickly.

hey are there any computer gurus on here? i am in a computer class and i need to answer this question about specifications for hardware for a particualar company, things like memory, storage, cpu, ram, processor etc. anything that would be needed for this situation. if anyone has extensive knowlege or even above average knowledge that wants to help me that would be sweeet. here is the question for anyone wanting add input. there isnt any wrong answers, there are just better answers then others:

"1. You have been hired to analyze and recommend hardware and software for a graphic artist company with 5 employees. All employees will require access to productivity and communication tools like email and word processing. The 3 graphic artists at the company do most of their work in graphics manipulation using industry standard software such as Photoshop and InDesign. The manager often double checks work done by the artists before submitting for print, so the manager will require a computer that can handle the graphic artists file formats. The secretary does not need to handle the raw graphics files, but still requires a productivity suite for typing letters and doing some spreadsheet analysis."

thanks
