you would be surprised in the cost difference for paint alone;
note you said the Davis repaint was flawless on your car ~ roughly half of that is in the paint itself, while the other half is in the prep.

If I was to paint those, I'd expect to spend way more than $100 in paint alone ~ and I don't have a source to get good stuff either.

Now, think about how much prep time is going to be needed... with shop labor rates being over $100/hour ~ what exactly are you getting??

I'd guess a cheap single stage acrylic with zero prep time on the parts.
(meaning they probably won't match the car as well as you'ld hope - and won't hold up either.)

If they haven't started paint work yet ect., I'd go talk again.

Frankly to use premium paint (like Glasurit) on the spoilers, I'd expect the paint alone to cost over $200 - that's not including clear.

So what do I ask him tomorrow, if he's using a single stage paint? I seem to recall on the final bill for my car paint supplies for my door and quarter blending was $283.

needless to say that is totally different;
paint was already mixed for the door.

All I can say is this is a buyer beware moment, and re-read this part of my last post;

At the end of the day, you're getting a job done at less than two hours labor - including paint;
I smell corners being cut, and I wouldn't go for it... but that's me.

I'd go to a shop that would stand behind the quality of their work, and include installation (which would cover any damage to your bumpers during installation)...

I think Jon is just being a worry wort. I say just get the really really cheap work done and regret it later. hell in 6months-1yr when the paint does start to peel off you'll be in a much better situation and can pay for the good paint then

I'm definitely paying for installation as I can do that myself. I'm trying not to spend all my money here. I'm thinking the guy underestimated the cost as well. I'll get it figured out tomorrow.

You do realize that cheap places will literally paint over dirt ~ that's to say if you don't pay them to prep, they do not prep...

Maaco is a great example of a company like this, they can do great jobs, but more often than not, the customers are wanting cheap-cheap-cheap ~ so the cars get cheap single stage acrylic, and zero prep time (which includes masking... or so I've been told).

Doesn't your paint have a metallic to it?

I seem to recall my brother telling me what makes paints (especially good ones) expensive ~ and often it's the metallics that are added to the base colours...

Im just gonna say to get it done right.. That's my opinion, I dont wanna have to repaint in a couple years, although being a daily driver, gonna have to fix the paint on my car sometime down the road to keep it nice! lol

To build upon this, you can see it in the cost of paints for Cobalts ~ the ones with metallics were often, if not the only, extra cost paints...

Yeah I was typing that on my phone and I forgot the word "not". I've read this how-to a million times and surely I can do it myself, not to mention I need to replace a foglight bulb and rear sidemarker. I should be alright. Just talked to a girl with a sunburst orange 2.2 that had a rear bumper painted by them and she said the quote was less than other places... said the paint matches just as well as it did before and has made it through all of last winter, a bunch of summer highway driving, and this winter 100% fine.

The Lethbridge Police guys are great. My neighbour is one, and I know a lot of them personally because my dad had an on-going vandalism incident at his office where some douche nozzle was throwing rocks through the windows. They were very helpful. The RCMP guys on the other hand... pulled me over for going 75 on 43 St... the limit is 70. FML.

My father is in the LRPS , they are indeed a great group of guys. That sucks about being pulled over on 43rd for that. I was just glad he didn't give me a ticket for tint.

Cost for the little grilles in the LSJ rear lip plus the clips for the front and rear are just over $300 from the dealer. She tried her best to knock the price down, too. I'll get the clips from gmpartsdirect.com and fab my own grilles for now; I'll order them from gmpd if it ends up looking too bad. Man that's ridiculous! Can't imagine the cost if I had bought the lips from them. *shudder*

or you could go to car-part.com to look for yards which have any SC or TC ~ then call looking for those pieces...

I mostly went out of curiosity... the grilles aren't an issue, it's the clips. It's much easier to just buy them from gmpd.ca than to find a wrecked 2.0 within decent distance of me to get enough usable clips off of that.

iirc come to think of it though, the rear "grilles" do not use clips.

Nope, but both lips do. And it's the clips I need. Before I do anything, I'll have a look in a few stores once I get the lips back tomorrow and see if I find anything I can use in place of those clips. There must be something at an auto store that will do a good enough job.
