I obviously need to go murder somebody right now. Haha when I got my Cavy when I was 16 my parents just added me to their plan (though it was my own insurance) because there was a discount with their 2 vehicles and 2 homes, plus my dad's office. So... I get the 2.4, a month after I turned 18... my broker ran through quotes with me and said they were all about the same and I didn't know any better.
That said, any quotes I've got or calculate online are all in that $3,800 - $4,100 range. I'll try for an Aviva quote next week.
Edit: tried playing around with kanetix.ca again... even bumping my age to 23 and taking my tickets off the lowest quote there is $2877 / yr. So either that site is screwed, I'm screwed, or I should consider ditching collision.

Will's is cheap cause he is 23. When you turn 21 your insurance goes down, along with getting married and owning a home and stuff.
I was 18 when I got my Cobalt, 19 now. I don't have collision cause it would be 5K a year. I'm with Intact, TD quoted me at 6700 . I might check out state farm and avina though.
Isn't this the ZZP stroker 2.4L kit for the 2.0's? It's not an LE5. Cool nonetheless.

it goes down a lil bit but not much, the biggest drop in terms of age is 25.
my comment was more directed towards the others like will and thedude who are over 21. but still you should always shop around. hell i still do roughly every 6 months.

if your still paying for the vehicle it is extremely unlikely that you can drop collision, as its actually a clause in your lease or finance papers that full coverage be maintained on the vehicle for the entire term
I pay about 1500 for my TC... then again I know some people in insurance. Funny thing is when I got that quote the guy was trying to tell me it was high lol. Thats full coverage too. Then again I'm a bit older

Only if you have full coverage;
THe base insurance you can get is coined "PLPD" which is "Public Liability (&) Public Damage" - which means the only way you would ever see any compensation for damage to your car, is if you chase down the insurance company of anyone who hits you (ect)... believe me I know this, and learnt the hard way...
you know what I just said about learning the hard way?
this was my daily driver in late January 2007;
I was turning from northbound Ogden Road, waiting to turn left just over the bridge;
The light turned red, I observed traffic on the southbound Ogden road stop three vehicles deep in the left lane;
I attempted to clear the intersection because I now had right of way;
The lady that hit me:
If she had only done two illegal things, the accident would not have happened...
I was screwed.
To make matters worse, the cops somehow managed to convince all the witnesses that they did not want to make an official statement (even though everyone on the scene said that she totally was at fault - and she didn't even come out of her car till the cops arrived...
Then to add injury to insult, the cops said that because I was making the turn they had to cite me for making an unsafe turn...
AND
they instructed the tow truck driver to take my car to impound - even though they were supposed to offer to have it towed to my house (so I had to pay an impound fee, and a both tows to get it home.)
I ended up getting the charges dropped, but becasue none of the witnesses were willing to make an official statement, the verdict was that most of the fault was pinned on me because I was making the turn... so nothing was ever paid out to the guy who happened to be out of a car for doing absolutely nothing wrong.
I obviously owed nothing on the car (because it was 16 years old at the time), but that was my daily driver...
My only saving grace was having one of my Firebirds registered and insured at the time;
But the last thing I wanted to do in winter was drive an old V8 car(which compared to a four-banger was a gas pig any way you paint it), that I didn't want to expose to salt...
That was when I first (albeit very briefly) considered getting a Cobalt...
I wanted another four cylinder compact, but refused to even consider anything with less than 150hp, and really wanted something 180hp or better...
I ended up deciding to just find another Grand Am or Calais with the Quad4HO drivetrain...
unfortunately at the time, none were to be found for sale in Canada...
so four months later (after skrimping, saving, and selling some stuff), I flew into Fresno California to buy my next GA...

shitty. i to was SOL when that guy hit me. even if they caught him, he was probably a Somali immigrant and had no money or insurance. and since Ralphy changed the MVAC program a few years ago, there is no way i can get compensation for the damage. I still have not got the police report yet, but im SOL.
MVAC stands for Motor Vehicle Accident Claims, it used to be if you were a victim of hit and run, you would get compensation from the government (up to $200,000) for injuries or damage to your car. But the insurance companies put pressure on Ralphy, so that they could sell more insurance. So he changed the policy to disclude damages to the car, so you can only get money for injuries

even though you had not payout, I'm pretty sure your parent had your back, so SOL (might not to most - like me) apply.
Not to mention you were able to (legally at least) drive the car after your accident.
iirc your repairs to the G5 costed less than my replacement car too...
were we both screwed - yuppers ~ but you get bonus points because it happened on your birthday.

my rear bumper and airbox lid are still cracked too though.
but yes i was able to drive, and it didnt cost that much considering the damage. had i had a shop do it, i believe it wouldve been around 2500-3000.
and i thought when i woke up, "how funny would it be if i got in a crash on the way to school today." and sure enough it happened. not gonna think that again

That airbox lid should be an easy part to replace - shouldn't it?
I'd either replace it, or remove it, and do an epoxy repair on the inside...

the stock airbox cannot be that bad...
even adding either a K&N drop in, or maybe a conical filter in place of the airbox assembly (I mean it's damaged right?) should get you in any trouble...
btw, I have a drop in if you're interested...

my insurance never looked at my car when i bought it, my dad talked to them over the phone, but still i dont wanna risk them dropping coverage if i hit someone.
but drop in is on my list of things to put it my car, i was just waiting for my filter to get a little dirtier.
the airbox is apparently restrictive at the 2 resonators (one infront of the passenger wheel, and one right at the tb)
