Race City; Friday July 30th (secret street)
Ok, so it's been talked about in the Calgary chat thread enough that the idea was posed of starting a separate thread to keep info clear/concise;
Tentatively speaking we are planning on (weather permitting) Friday July 30th.
Race City's information is out of date, so here's all you need to know about showing up ect;
The following is a run down of what the Tech inspectors are going to be looking for (some of this won't affect us, but I'm going to be thorough anyway):
I would suggest you completely clean your car out - if they see nothing, there is no reason for getting any static.
I would also suggest you bring a hoody, a pen, and bug spray.
Concessions are available, so bringing some spare cash is a good idea - iirc there is not interac, and no cash machine on the premises.
If I can think of more, I will add it later.
Race City's info says you need a helmet - but that is incorrect, (iirc) becasue all their own helmets are no longer in spec, they do not require them four coupes running 14.00 or slower;
Again, they are only needed for 13.99 & faster.
At this time it's looking like this is our list of attendees is this:
-Mark (jrmotosports 88)
-Jon (SylverSS/SC)
-Chris (kissrocker52)
-Jonathan (soundjunky; yup, that's me - I likely won't be driving my Cobalt)
-Steve (outtamymind)
-Graham (CalgaryBalt; not confirmed - but highly encouraged!)
Feel free to post up if you might come out.
Tentatively speaking we are planning on (weather permitting) Friday July 30th.
Race City's information is out of date, so here's all you need to know about showing up ect;
- You do not need helmets unless you seriously think you're going to break out of the fourteens (required for 13.99 & faster)
- Admission for car & driver is $25
- Admission for spectators is $5
- Gates often open early, and tech is slated to start @ 6pm
- Racing is supposed to start @ 7:30pm
- Although I have seen it occasionally happen, I believe that as a general rule of thumb, they do not allow passengers in cars running on the track.
The following is a run down of what the Tech inspectors are going to be looking for (some of this won't affect us, but I'm going to be thorough anyway):
- Battery needs to be secured down - for non-factory trunk mounts, they will need to see a battery box.
- Radiator overflow bottle needs to be present.
- Car's which have engines with major oil leaks might be turned away - they don't want anything to get onto the track surface.
- They should check that all your lug nuts are in place; none missing
- They should check for operational headlights - you will be required to run with them on at all times.
- They should check for an operating clutch/neutral safety switch; for m/t cars they will ask to see you turn the ignition on w/o depressing the clutch, for auto cars they will ask to see you try to start with the car in gear (you should only be able to engage the starter in neutral or park).
- Interior must be clean - nothing loose which could be a hazard of any kind is permitted.
- Seat must be securely in place - they may hold your seat and give a little shake to make sure.
- Trunk must be clean, anything in the trunk must either be secured down, or under the spare tire cover.
- You need to be wearing shoes - no sandal of any type is permissible
- You need to be wearing pants - anything that does not fully cover your legs is not permissible
I would suggest you completely clean your car out - if they see nothing, there is no reason for getting any static.
I would also suggest you bring a hoody, a pen, and bug spray.
Concessions are available, so bringing some spare cash is a good idea - iirc there is not interac, and no cash machine on the premises.

haha yeah I'm always on here but I rarely say anything. I have an 07 SS/SC, black, lowrise spoiler lightly modded. Would be nice to see some new faces it's been a while.

Frankly at our elevation you have to be putting down some real power to make a run that quick.
if you want to look into it when you get home, you could always find a helmet - it's your call (plus you could psych out whom ever your lined up against!)

Ok I was only going to make a joke reply, but you've made me think for a moment, and I'll make an amendment to the rules I listed earlier;
Clean out your car(s) before heading to the track;
A part of the saftey inspection is to make sure nothing is rolling around that could in any way (even purely theoretically) affect you while on the track.
They will check that seats are secure (for our cars they might only glance, or they might hold the seat and give a little shake ot make sure it's there securely.
you cannot pass inspection if you do not have the following;
full length pants
shoes
they will not let you race if you have any kind of sandal, or if you are in shorts.
I would also recommend bringing a hoody or something incase the inspector doesn't have their rules straight and suggests you need full length arm covering...
I will amend the rules in the first post to reflect this.
Soulfy - the more the merrier!

This is shaping up to be great!
An updated list of planned attendee's;
-jrmotosports 88 / Mark
-SylverSS/SC / Jon
-kissrocker52 / Chris
-soundjunky / Jonathan (yup, that's me - I likely won't be driving my Cobalt)
-outtamymind / Steve
-CalgaryBalt / Graham (not confirmed - but highly encouraged!)
-Khase
-Soulflyz (coming in from Red Deer)
-daedlus
-jlaudiog5gt (coming in from Edmonton)
I will put this out there;
For anyone coming in from out of town, I live a couple minutes from the track, you are welcome to drop stuff off at my place - which is IMHO alot better of an idea than putting stuff in the parking lot @ the track.
If anyone might need a place to crash (please understand my place is pretty meager at the moment), I might be able to accommodate;
PM me if you're interested.
This is kinda cool - I haven't seen Cobalts in any numbers @ Race City since '07 ~ back then there would regularly be at least 2 or 3 (if not more) a night...
Occasionally one would show up in '08, but nothing comes to mind even for then...
IIRC the last time I raced one it was a black SS/SC in 2007.
EDIT:
WHAT!?!
come on!!
What gives??
if brakes are holding you back that much how bad are they to begin with?

Are you going to need help doing your brakes or something?
a brake job (with all new parts) is what, a half hour job??

I can wait now Ive been wanting to go on a road trip 4 sooo long lol... how is the track!! Ive only ever raced at castol.. so i dont know if my times will be better or worse LOL
#25
castrol is at a lower elevation, and it's enough to make many locals think that RC is bad purely because they can always post better times at castrol.
here's a post I made to this effect;
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/show...postcount=9512
If you come down only looking to have fun, it will be worth it;
Plus you can use your timeslip and figure out your times when factoring for purely elevation or DA correction factors using online tools.
If you're all about getting the lowest possible timeslip for your car, you should have gone last weekend to mission for the WCCM(?) ~ as mission is at a very low elevation compared to any Alberta track...
The biggest difference that I am reading right now, is that spectators @ Castrol are charge $10 admission, while it's only $5 admission @ Race City.
I hope this post helps!
