call it what you will;
same crap, different pile.

I don't actually know about the helmet deal.

Since the Calgary Drag Racing association's forum is down (they are in charge of running this) I'll look up one of the members I know to clarify.
I'kll have an answer in a day or three...

If anyone coming from out of town wants to drop off stuff at my place (I'm a short drive from the track) please PM me, to arrange meeting before going to the track - I'll give you my phone number.

I'll prolly be there, logging peoples runs and generally providing Money pit recommendations for getting better E.T's / power...

Won't be going down the track though.

Basically everything you could spend money on the make more power...

But that goes right along with tuning recommendations.

but at the end of the day I'd hope that everyone here knows that these are (after all) only FWD four banger cars;
This limits what we can do;
If you are only concerned about going faster, you would be best off starting with a V8 car;
Had I to pick (a late model) one, near the top of my list would be an LS1/6spd 1998-2002 F-body...

I don't even want to fathom what it would cost to make a custom tube frame to mount the V8 in a cobalt...

I certainly understand that.

But for an example, T-Jay's car is putting out 285 on the dyno, and with some more tuning, we can be closer to 300. In addition to that, after the dyno, I was able to provide him with a list that could carry him above that, albeit costing more money.

I hear what you are saying about buying something that starts at a higher power level, and working up from that, but most guys really love their cars, and just want to look at ways to improve them. I am happy to oblige in that area.

Not everyone wants to ditch their (initially) slower car and start off with 400+ and go up from there, I think Steve can vouch for that. Hell, even I am getting rid of the cobalt to get into something with higher potential. I just like to help out with guys that want more out of their baby.

Consider Rod's near-failed project of the same calibre...

he recently had to buy a new helmet and (going off memory) said they were looking for Snell05 or something like that.

IIRC the helmets Race City used to loan out were all Dot95, and when AHRA/NHRA said that they were NGF, they stoped making everyone wear them.

so if there is any doubt, look up on the NHRA/AHRA site wat they require for helmets - oterwise, lets say Snell05 (hopefully there is such a thing!!).
