Hey guys, what are your thoughts? https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/show....php?p=2688667

you were gone for a week and a half? i guess that means the car is still in one piece?

Car never got surgery.... half the parts didn't show up.
BTW, I'm not sure if anyone caught my SS/TC review on 306. If not, here it is.
And for the record, I went back a second time, and told the guy I wanted to drive it with premium in the tank. It was empty, so the guy threw in $30 of V-power.... no different than the first drive.

Yup... drove the one at Sherwood.
Fun to drive... but not my thing by preference.
They sound noisy... like a bucket of bolts in the head. That is due to the direct injection.
They claim 'no lag', because of the 'properly sized turbo'. Dead wrong. It's noticeable, and made me upset,, coming from an SC'd car, I like the grunt out of the corners. I can attest to the fact that a Stage 2 LSJ (Supercharged) car is easily comparable. In my opinion, the SC'd car is more fun in the city, although if I drove more on the highway, or on higher speed roads, I'd take the new LNF (Turbo).
I didn't get too much of a chance to really try out the no-lift shift and launch control... but the brief bit I messed with it, it's seemed like a good advantage to the 'beginner racer'. I think we'll see some consistent runs out of these cars in the future.
Apparently GM addressed some of the weak points of the SC model. The axles are apparently stronger, with no neck-down at the spline. With the addition of the mentioned launch control, there should be far less Cobalt's getting towed off the track.
Another thing that was fixed is the glazed clutch problem. This new model features a stronger beefier clutch. It's quiet apparent when driving the car, although, it does not affect drive-ability on the street.
Many magazines do comment on the amazing handling of the car.... I'll mention right now, it's almost the same suspension in the old model, as well as the 2.4SS. Different springs.... that's it. Handling is very much the same as mine.
Another noted thing, GM did a good job on selecting the tires on this new model. Not only the wider face, but the better quality of tire on the new machine makes it many times better in the corners. The old Pirelli Pzero's were complete crap.
One thing I noticed is that everyone always complains about the interior. I know it's boring... mine is boring... the new one is boring. It's an eco-box.... get over it. The new SS/TC ditched the perf-leather for 'premium racing seat'. I'm pretty partial to leather... so they didn't impress me. They felt a bit hard, like an SRT-4 (sorry guys)... but damn do they hold good. Besides that, some of the new DIC options are pretty cool.... like tire pressure and other junk. In all I felt right at home.
The brakes are, however, very much more responsive, and far more aggressive. Stopping on a dime is an understatement. GM did good using Brembo's on this model.
On a non-driven note, I'm upset with GM that they locked the ECU up really tight (GTR style). No tuning, no major modding. Hopefully HPT can crack the ECU, and take advantage of the aftermarket that is knocking the LNF's door.
I should probably summarize here.
The first thing I thought as I got out of the car is; "If I wanted a fun daily driver that would stay stock.... this is the car". It has everything I like about mine, with a bit of flare... less the modding ability. It would be a nice, reliable boot around car.
If I had to go back and choose between my LSJ (SS/SC) and the LNF (SS/TC), I'd have a bit of a hard time deciding. They are both very tempting, but reach out to very different styles of driving. I love my car... I love this new one.
At the end of the day, the SS/TC indeed did impress me.... but just not enough to make the trade in (and take it hard from GM).

For those that care....
Jen and I are moving out of the city, so the house we were in will be up for rent soon. I can probably pull to get someone I know-ish into the house instead of some random.
House located between Clearance and Broadway, on 11th. About 730 sq-ft. 2 bedroom. Small basement with washer and dryer. Small one car garage. Larger outside parking spot next to the garage.
We were renting for $750/mo. Not sure if the guy is wanting to raise it again or not.
Bills total bills were not too much more than $1100/mo in the winter.
PM me, and I can get you more details (like the exact address and such).

Looks like you made it more than 12 hours with your sig Tyler. And i was actually going to ask details on your house. (Just fmi, because i'm to broke to do anything right now)
So, is Jen moving out there too, or staying in the Rostern area for a while?
