Well, they told me that my factory chain guard on the bike wasn't good enough.
Then told me that I must have modified it, cause it was too short.

WTF SERIOUS????

Gawd - was today the provincial "day of the idiot"????

My CEL came on on the way home from the dealer. Wee, $266 for nothing. I think I'm gonna get HPT asap. I wanna get able to fix all this **** myself. Tyler, is it too much to ask for you to tune me for my intake? I have this theory that the intake, being full 3", let's more air through than it detects. But that wasn't quite enough for the P0171 until recently when I switched to Mohawk gas for the first time. Mohawk states that their gasoline may cause some engines to detect lean conditions due to the natural Oxygen present in their fuels. I bet the intake and Ethanol blended fuel combined are enough to throw the code. The reason I suspect this is cause the code never popped up until the day I switch fuel. I am gonna change to VPower again tomorrow and see what's ****........Anywho - seriously rethinking this "warranty warrior" thing.....everyone has 60s and a tune and sweet rides, and I have this slow warrantied car that I can't get warrantied....Grrrr.... /rant #2

Why $266? I thought that was a warranty claim....

Anyways, tomorrow I'll PM you the specifics on tuning, and what the deal is.

Yup, it was a warranty claim. Sure glad I bought the extended warranty.... They said that since they can't find what is wrong, they can't claim warranty to GM. They said that "someone" has to pay for the time, and that falls to me. They said that if I left it there for however many days/weeks it would take to figure out what was wrong, they MAY warranty it all (as long as the final cause is warranty-able). But, if I left it with them for say a week, they find the problem and say it can't be warrantied, then I would be on the hook for the ENTIRE bill. So, I decided to pay the $266 instead of a possible grand or two. Plus, I got my car out of the clutches of those retards.

Wow... are they wrong.
If they can't find the problem... they still have to foot the bill.

They can only charge you if they can prove to you that it's not warranty related work.

They are claiming that because I took the car before they could find the problem, that I have to pay. They say that I can always take it back when I am willing to let them keep it for as long as they need to find the problem. Then, if it is a warranty issue, they will re-imburse me. But, I've got no confidence in them, or any dealer at this point.....so it's not going back.

Is this dealership really OK to deal with? I know NO dealerships in Canada know **** about our cars - but is there a better one?
Have you tried Mann Northway in PA?

I think I might. I'm also kinda certain they will want to see my car again though. I'm not sure if I want dealers doing anything but my oil changes and obvious warranty work.... Let me know about the letter thing. I'll probably write it next week.

Yeah, I know. I seriously considered it. I brought up Google Maps, and that is just too far away to do on a workday. What can I tell you - I appreciate it and would love to go there....it's just so dang far from Martensville.... We will see. I still need a place to get oil changes done, so I can see heading down there for a Saturday morning for that.

UPDATE: So, I was wracking my brain why SMP can't find any problems with the car, and why the CEL came back on yet again on the way home from there. It occurred to me that the RD Fabs intake, like the RAW, is a full 3" intake. The placement of the MAF in the tubing is done very well, and never threw a code for me (until now). However, since the diameter of the tubing is larger, it surely must push the boundaries of the MAF settings. I think when I switched to Mohawk 94, that is what pushed the Oxygen content over the edge and threw the code. Mohawk claims that their fuels have natural Oxygen content, which may cause modern vehicles to report a lean condition.
Anyway, I decided to drive like a retard to get rid of as much fuel as I could - then I went to the Flying J and filled up with Shell 91. I paid, came out, turned the car on, drove out of the parking lot, and the CEL went away.
Now, I am hoping that after a week of driving, I don't see another CEL. I will stick with Shell and see what happens. I am hoping my theory was correct,
*But, I still learned how easily GM can toss my warranty around. So I'll be getting HP Tuners for several reasons, including tuning the MAF for the larger intake diameter and helping in dealing with CELs in the future.

That is Jesse and he pays for his own ride and all his toys, he is a good guy and a blast to talk too. He has a good paying job and works alot of hours, he is a roofer. ( that sounds funny. ) He just ordered his wideband and when that is in we can start to get crazy with the tune on his car.

Hey, I am suprised I havent seen this yet, but thought here is what is going on with your car 99% sure of this as I have seen it on 3 cars so far. I searched and it looks like you have the 3" intake, well, what happens is the MAF sensor on our cars is calibrated by volume to the size of the intake that is stock yada yada yada and you get X amount of air drawn in which relates to Y amount of fuel. Now what happens is that with the larger intake your MAF is no longer calibrated for A the volume of air in the 3" pipe and B the flow (increased due to obvious reasons)
So what happens is that when you are driving your vehicle switches between your VE tables and maf control for AFR over your short and long term fuel trims. When you are flowing more air the maf doesnt see it becuase of the calibration differences therefore you are lean. Sooo the computer is adding fuel to reach the commanded AFR. After this happens for a little while the LTF is high for too long sending the Lean code.
The fix is to Calibrate the Maf to the intake by logging MAF to AFR error. You do this by turning off both long and short term fuel trims and go driving. I have done this to my own car which gave me the same issue and another as well with new intakes. On my Injen my MAF was out 15%, plenty to give the lean code.

If you took this issue to the dealer, there is nothing that they could find wrong with the system, because really there is nothing wrong to "see" They can only see the MAF working but not read the % of error.

Hope this helps you out. If I am wrong on this issue (as I have only looked back a couple ) I hope you enjoy the read lol.

He probably did buy it himself but it makes a little difference when you have a high paying job and you live at home. I'd be drivin a lambo if i lived at home still, but that didnt happen my parents kicked me out.
