2nd gear and 4th gear issues!!!!!
I been trying to find a cure for this. Sometimes when I shift. Hard or not my shifter likes to make its way beyond its shift point. It goes farther back in 2nd and 4th gear. I am stumped at what it can be. So far I have replaced my shifter bracket to the updated LNF bracket. Replaced broken roll pin. STS with clamp. Adjusted to a comfortable setting too.
This is normal 2nd.
Then this is when it goes further back and gets stuck.
Its the same with 4th gear. Sometimes it happens sometimes its OK. Any ideas what the problem is?

Dumb question maybe. But when you installed your STS did you make sure that your shifter was in the same position as the gear your tranny was in before you clamped the cables?
For instance, if your car was in N, but your shifter was between N and 4th when you clamped the cables, then maybe its close enough that it will shift into gear, but off enough to allow the sifter to drop back like that.
I dont even know if thats possible, so if not just disregard my statement haha

Yes my buddy installed it and I saw him put it in 4th. Car runs and drives like normal. Is just when its race time. Especially when car is almost redlined this happens. I have to granny shift it to keep it in place. Or else it goes far back.
The plastic clamp on left is for right to left movement. The metal clamp is the forward and back. That's where the issue is but I doubt its the clamp. Also does it matter of the lil rubbery material is in the middle of the clamp and not all the way back? I already fked with it and I can do it again.

Do you mean the little rubber dust boot that goes on the end of the cable sheath that keeps crap from getting inside the cable sheath and binding up the cable or freezing in the winter?

It looks like this now.
It used to be in the middle.
Not visible. This is how I had it before.
After the adjustment my shifter looks like this in 2nd and 4th.
Now the travel is longer. This is where it used to get stuck. I don't know if this is how the shifter should look like or not. I need another cobalt to confirm this. It def feels different. I have to do more to shift it. Feels almost the same as stock.

I have no freaking clue what you're talking about. Seriously.
Adjusting the cables has absolutely no effect whatsoever on the length of your throw. The only thing that changes that is the manufactured length of the shifter from the pivot to the ball at the bottom. It's simple geometry.
Now, it is possible that you had the cabled so far out of adjustment that your shifter wasn't going all the way into gear before hitting the stops. In some ways I guess you could say that it changed the length of the throw only in that it was not actually using the full length.
Seems you just don't know how to adjust the cables and need a How-to. Looking at my cables will not help you. they are adjusted for my car, not yours.
