3rd Gear Gone!
Well, tonight I was heading downtown to my buddies birthday dinner and something bad happened. Cruising down the highway, I downshifted into 3rd at about 70mph and got on it a little only to hear a loud ping noise and found no third gear! I limped the car home after dinner, and yet have another issue to fix on the car. You can hear what's left of third gear rubbing and jingling around in there, but I still at least had all the other gears to gimp home in. I guess I get to learn yet again, you got to pay to play.
When it breaks, build it better! I just hope this doesn't effect the funds enough to make me have to loose my twinscrew swap!

Dude! Crack would increase profit margins by 400% !! Did you take Business in college?
LOL. Try looking around your room/house/garage for ANYTHING you could take to a pawn shop or sell. Thats always a good way to make a quick buck.

Yup, this does suck, but the car has no warranty. This is going to be an out of pocket expense.
Anyone know where I can order a new tranny from for a decent price if I have to go that route? I looked on ebay, and I can get a used G85 tranny and LSJ engine with only 4 miles on it for $3750.
Bump for places to buy or build my tranny!

**** man, that really sucks! i hope it doesnt affect your twinscrew swap.....
i think JBP is building up victory red ss's tranny, it is going to be built for 750hp, i would PM him, and see what he is doing....
3750 does seem like a good price for a engine and tranny though, you never know, you might want an engine to build up in the future too.....
or
since you plan on doing that twinscrew swap, with 350-400+whp, the tranny might go again, might be better off putting that money into building it up.....even if it does cost more, it might save you in the long run.....
good luck what ever you do, i hope everything works out good for you....
how many miles do you have on your car?? do you have the G85 or the non LSD tranny??

I talked with Victory ans his tranny is not getting built. It would have cost too much for the one off input shaft. He is currently seeking other avenues. I am considering the engine/tranny combo as it is a damn good steal. My car has the G85 LSD tranny, and the car has a little over 15K. I think this has more to do with the CM fiasco and my screwed up shift linkage I just replaced more than anything. I think since it was hard to get into 3rd for awhile there it finally just gave out.
If I get another tranny, I might have it disassembled and shotpeened/cryo treated to make it a little stronger. We'll see what happens. I'm going to try and avoid having to pull out of the twinscrew swap though at all costs because I've been waiting forever for it!

yeah 2k5ss/sc, that is for sure a steal, you will have a spear motor too.....if you dont plan on using it, i am sure you can sell it too, i might also be looking for a motor in the near future to if you are just going to sell it, i am sure many others on here might be looking for a motor too.... good luck.....well the tranny is out, it will also be a good time to instal that Bully stage 4 too eh?? if it fits in the price range....

I was thinking Exedy clutch/flywheel combo to get teh CM FX300 out of there. It works great, but I might as well start fresh! We'll have to wait and see what the funds situation looks like. I need to go get my taxes done to find out what I'll be getting back. I should be getting a nice check because I bought a house this year!

Dezod, Turbotech, and UltraRev have it. I think Dezod was the cheapest as they have a click on Buy It Now discount and a cheaper price overall.

If you go with rebuilding yours ....look into Microniting it . I looked into this for the rear end and trans on my camaro and it seems to be a better alternative to the typical cryo treatments . Alot of high hp F-body guys seem to be microniting there T56's . At least something to look into .

Im interested to see where ya go with it .The gear rattle in mine has started to get quite loud . As hard as I am on it and the extra power this year I will be amazed if it makes it thru the summer

You need to get the broken pieces out of there before the crack the casing or destroy the other gears.
If you are talking to a trans builder...perhaps you could have them make a shorter first gear that is actually usable and keeps the motor in the power band for 2nd gear. That would probably help your times more than anything.
