im sorry but your all wrong. the saab tranny ends up with way shorter gears. the g85 equipped balts and the comp pak redline have a alittle bit taller 5th gear. good to like 165 ish with a stage tune and the 7k redline. the 6 speed with the same tune would top out at 147. the 6th is even shorter than the stock 5th. sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

actually you are wrong the 6 speed tranny every gear is taller Below is the specs of each tranny off chevy and saabs website and below that is the calculations of each gear at top rpm, and top gear at several mph


SS Supercharged Gear Ratios
First- 4.05
Second- 2.02
Third gear-1.35
Fourth= 0.98
Fifth- 0.69
Reverse- 3.31
Final drive ratio- 3.94
Case material aluminum

Saab 9-3 Gear Ratios

First 3.77:1
Second 2.04:1
Third 1.37:1
Fourth 1.05:1
Fifth 0.85:1
Sixth 0.71:1
Reverse 3.54:1
Final Drive 3:55:1
Case Material aluminum


Gearbox:- SS supercharged 5 speed
Tire:- Kumo 215/45r18

Top Gear gives 28.040 MPH/1000 RPM and a top speed of 196.283 MPH at 7000 RPM

Engine speeds in top gear:-

70 MPH = 2496 RPM 80 MPH = 2853 RPM 90 MPH = 3210 RPM 100 MPH = 3566 RPM

Top Speed in 1 gear = 33.441 MPH
And changes into 2 gear at 3491 RPM dropping 3509 RPM
Top Speed in 2 gear = 67.047 MPH
And changes into 3 gear at 4678 RPM dropping 2322 RPM
Top Speed in 3 gear = 100.322 MPH
And changes into 4 gear at 5081 RPM dropping 1919 RPM
Top Speed in 4 gear = 138.199 MPH
And changes into 5 gear at 4929 RPM dropping 2071 RPM
Top Speed in 5 gear = 196.283 MPH

Having an 6 speed won't benefit much.

You have to think price per gains. Is it worth going through all this for 1 extra gear?

There are plenty of ways to get fast than changing your transmission just so you have an extra gear for slightly better acceleration.

a tad off of the subject, but i dont really think my question is worthy of its own thread...is there a site where you can find auto junkyards near you? i dont have a clue where the closest auto junk yard is...

Since im converting my car to turbo the stock trans should work great...seeing as it was originally designed for a turbo car...long gears ftw!
