Clutch questions 09 SS/TC

I'm looking into buying a 2009 SS/TC with 92,000 miles on it. The guy who owns it does not know when the clutch was last replaced. I don't know how to drive a stick, so I'll learn on this clutch. If this clutch is bad, or if I make it bad, I'll replace it, as I don't know when it was last replaced anyway.

As for the current clutch, what are signs the clutch is bad? I don't know how to drive it so there's that. I don't want to be stalling this guy's car out trying to test out his clutch. I do ride a motorcycle so there is that aspect, I know how to not stall it out, the clutch is my best friend, all that good stuff. But how would I tell if the clutch is bad without driving it?

If the clutch is bad, or getting there, then I'll drive it until I can replace it. But what clutch would be good for DD? I'm not looking to modify it at all, not looking to boost it, tune it, nothing. I just want to drive it stock. I just want a clutch that is more DD oriented, not a heavy, grabby clutch, but something that say in some traffic, won't become a huge pain in the ass to drive. I want something more forgiving. A stock, OEM, replacement clutch. Or whatever suggestions you folks have about aftermarket clutches? I'm not looking to race it but I am 19 and would like to have fun so there is that to think about.

Thanks for any help you give, or even for reading this far.

Well say bye bye to this clutch lol replace it.

Replace it with the GMPP clutch. It's meant for the LSJ but also fits and works on the LNF and holds more torque and it just like stock. I use it and never noticed a difference.
Even for stock power the clutch currently in it should be fine.

Honestly don't floor it under 3k and in sure it will hold for awhile. If it's on the stock tune (15psi) and the guy befor could drive it will be aright. I've got 110k on the stocker clutch in my tc with lots of rev matching/racing on the freeway over 50 drag passes and tuned for 40k and it hasn't slipped yet. So if it was ever replaced I'm sure it has enough life left in it for u to learn on it for awhile. Just always down shift when u get on it and it will last for awhile still I bet. Good luck!

I'm not 100% sure which is why im asking how to tell if it's bad and what to get as far as a new clutch goes if i do end up replacing it.

I will most likely be paying someone to put in the cluth, would they know it's not for the car? I don't want to buy it, give it to them to put in, then get a call that it's not for the car...

Yes it should be all stock. He has had it for long enough to drive it right! 9 months is enough time... Even at 92k, that's 18k less than you, so it shouldn't be that bad right? If you've got 18k more on it than I should be able to squeeze more out of it before dropping 1k into it...

I will sell you a KY Stage 3 clutch for your car that will hold what you throw at it. Brand new and $100 off MSRP with free shipping.

I would think so! The stock clutches on these cars are definitely good as long as he didn't ride the clutch and mess up the TOB I think u will have some time befor u need a new 1. If the rpms jump up and u don't gain speed it's time for a new clutch if it holds then u dont. With it being stock that's even better.

When new on a clutch a good practice is when taking off just put it in 5th and go. That way you don't have to shift and can concentrate on driving.

JK, there's no way to predict how long it'll last. Just budget replacing it and drive it until it's needed.

you'll know when it's needed.

Good to know! I got in the car and drove it a little bit and from what I could tell the clutch was fine! No problems grabbing and it grabs at such a perfect spot for me it's awesome! I do have a feeling it was replaced as it is on the heavier side...
