Do I really need a 3" inch exhaust?
I have a 07 ss/sc with tons of mods. One of these mods is full 3" exhaust which consists of a Clear image 1.75" primary mid length header with 3" high flow cat back and magnaflow muffler. THIS SET UP IS TOO LOUD!!!!!!!! I was thinking about going back down to a 2.5" cat back for sound reduction purposes. A 2.5" resonator has room for more packing and same with the 2.5" muffler. I guess my main question is: How much hp can a 2.5" cat back handle? Will I loose power or is 3" over kill for our cars anyways?

I have a zzp S3 heat exchanger, dual pass plate with opt. b, 60 lb injectors, 2.8 pulley, ingalls t.d., eibach sportlines, the full exhaust mentioned earlier, zzp 1.0 ecm with a trifecta dyno tune, I know i have a couple more mods but cant remember at the moment

You will not notice a loss in power switching to a 2.5" catback with that setup. A 2.5" catback is good at two things, exhaust gas velocity & flow. If you arent flowing enough air you will have decreased exhaust gas velocity with a 3" catback. Most people on this site do not understand the concept of exhaust gas velocity very well, and think bigger is always better.

had a magnaflow then switched to dynomax VT (valve technology) series. The VT series helped quiet it down at idle and under very lilttle power. But once you give it a little juice and that valve opens up, it's just as loud as the magnaflow.

Yea I posted before I read it all haha. If you go with 3 inch I hear good things about the dynomax super turbo muffler(I think that's what it's called). But idk if it is available in 3 inch version.

I got the Dynomax Superturbo muffler and it works GREAT. Much quieter than the magnaflow or the dynomax vt series but not too quiet. You can still hear the exhaust well but it has a deeper less harsh tone. Also I did not loose ANY power!! Ran a 13.15 @ 114 before the muffler swap and ran the exact same time and mph after the swap. The superturbo get the 2 thumbs and the 2 big toes up from me. 1/4 time and mph via aeroforce interceptor scan gauge.
