Does an aftermarket shifter reduce OE sloppiness?

I've tried numerous searches and nobody seems to mention this. I have an '09 SS and when in gear, the shifter feels sloppy and can be wiggled around. I installed an aftermarket Hurst shifter on my '97 WS6 and that went away (greatest mod I've ever done to that car). Will a new shifter fix this problem, or will it simply reduce the throw? Thanks.

It's shorter, for sure. I wouldn't say it's any less sloppy, though, really.

I have a TWM, as well.

Your OEM shifter shouldn't be sloppy... Have you checked your linkages?

Also, you do not want a Hurst shifter for this car...

TWM makes the best shifters for the Cobalt and many other cars. They may be a tad more expensive but they are WAY better engineered than the Hurst or B&M.

PimpLay2, I'd definitely appreciate if you'd let me know. Good luck with the installation!
I don't care about the shorter throw. All I want is the sloppiness to go away.

Yea, I've heard fitment issues with the Hursts for these. It's by far the best shifter availabe for my TA though. I have less than 1000mi on this car and I've never opened up anything with it, so I don't know if the linkages are out-of-whack.

B&M or TWM for the Cobalt

The Hurst unit has some serious problems

I installed my TMW sdmws6

and the sloppyness you speak of is still there... like when you are in gear you still can wiggle it around

as for the throw it is VERY shorter, feels like you touch it and it goes into next gear

Thanks a lot for getting back to me PimpLay2. That information is great to know. I really was hoping that a new shifter would fix that. My Trans Am felt the same way and when I put the Hurst B/P in, it felt simply amazing; no wiggle at all in any direction and a great-feeling smooth notch when you go into gear. Oh well, I guess I'll have to deal with it. Thanks again everybody.
