Flywheel Resurfacing...

What are the benefits of this during a clutch change?

Im having a problem finding a place that is open on Saturday that will do it.

Looks like I will just be taking a scoring pad or some type of abrasive material to remove the glaze that is on the flywheel. I have no other choice

What kind of clutch? I know if your using Exedy, stock or Spec they all say DO NOT resurface the flywheel. It messes with tolorances.

Just clean it and scuff it up.

Don't get it done, like I said it messes with the tolorances. Ask Clutchmasters what they recommend, they will probably tell you to replace the whole flywheel like GM does. Also good luck with the FX300, I hope they figured out the issues they had with them in the past.

Me too, I am pretty sure they fixed them. 2K5SS/SC said his replacement one worked but he sold it. So should I just put the stock one back in? Just clean it up alittle bit?

I'd just clean and scuff up the stock flywheel if it's not grooved or anything.

I sent CM's an email. Lets see what they say

Is that what you did with your Spec? Or did you go with their fly?

We will wait for others to chime in here...

I know for a fact you're not supose to resurface the OEM flywheel with the OEM clutch. Not sure about aftermarket.

I understand it's the right way to do it on most cars but there was a bullitin on this for this car. It said DO NOT RESURFACE THE FLYWHEEL, REPLACE ONLY!

I can't find it though. But good luck anyways.

Gm puts out bulletins to replace parts so that they can get them back to analyze them. They were analyzing flywheels because of the clutch problem. The reason you can't find the bulletin is because they found out the flywheel isn't the problem. I've resurfaced at least 10 of these flywheels with no problems.

gm also says that to sell more parts. they did it with the lt1 flywheels, however ive had quite a few resurfaced and they are doing fine.

you must always resurface or replace the flywheel when doing a cutch job. what it does is not only takes the glaze off, it makes sure you have a perfectly flat surface and it also takes out the hard (hot) spots. by not turning a flywheel you can end up with a clutch that chatters on take off, and it will reduce clutch life.

GM resurfaced my flywheel when they replace my trans and clutch under warranty. I have had zero driveability issues or torque holding issues.
