Grinding Noise When I Let Off the Gas

Ever since I bought my 2007 Cobalt SS Supercharged it makes a grinding noise when I'm going over 30 mph and I let go of the gas. The noise seems to be coming from the driving side and stops if I put the car in neutral or if I press the clutch in and also stops once a give it gas. Its not a very loud or course grinding sound but sounds more fine like two smooth metal surfaces rubbing.

Ive looked all over for an answer but noones seems to have a solid, singular answer.

My car did this ever since I bought it.
I've always wondered the same thing.

Could be the flex pipe mine does it too but only certain rpms, was replaced once and stopped but slowly came back, either that or part of the the whole assembly.

my guess would be the Thow-out bearing. when the clutch pedal is depressed, the TOB is pushed onto the spring finger son the Pressure plate, which would eliminate any noise. when you release the clutch pedal the TOB is riding on the Input shaft and is right against the spring fingers, which would allow it to make noise as it has no force on it.

but this would not be the case if it does go away with the car in neutral and the clutch pedal is released

Haha nah im being serious.

have you done a clutch in your car recently? IIRC i thought you had to, i would check the mounts, make sure they are tight. are you running stock motor and trans mounts aftermarket?

I've read that it's aftermarket flywheels(?) that cause this. Not just on this car either.
I've never had my car with a stock clutch, so I wouldn't know.

Like OP said, it's only above like 30mph when you let off the gas and there's a little growl.

my car clanks when i let off the gas sometimes too. it's just a bit of play in the drivetrain im sure. as for the noise. my car makes a rubbing noise on deceleration but also even if my clutch is pressed in. like there's a noise in the drivetrain. when i accelerate it seems to go away. it's not hte regular whine of hte tranny it's very faint but noticeable and annoying.

good luck find the noise.

my car would also make a loud tick sound whenever i accelerated or decelerated and it turned out to be my axle. replaced under warranty.

wow judging by your english and your location you're asian correct? either that or french haha

alot of cars make noises like this most of the time it's normal. it doesn't affect driveability .. it's more of an OCD thing where one little things changes and you notice it and stress out because you're not used to it. these cars are pretty tough when they are taken care of.

Luckily, all of the recalls and stuff were already done when I bought mine.
Dude, buy the car. You'll love it. There are known issues, but some people abuse their cars.

I used to have the sound your talking about, i have an act hd clutch. I fixed it by changing my driving habits i guess. I used to stay in a higher gear to save some gas, that seemed to be what was causing the sound for me. I rarely now let my car go below 2k rpms. I could b off here, but i think i was causing the clutch to not sit right and causing some play, hence making it rattle or grind around down there. Give it a try, it fixed it for me

I have the exact same car with the exact same issue. 81,000 miles on the factory clutch. Did you ever find out what it was? I thought maybe throwout bearing but don't those usually make noise when you press the clutch rather than when it's released?

i guess if it ain't broke don't fix it...
