Hey Maryland! Anyone know how to install a clutch on the side??
My Balt is in dire need of a clutch upgrade. I'm looking into the GM upgrade and am willing to help install it, but I need help in doing it. I'm looking at trying to get it done in 1 day. Is that even possible?
I have some mechanical knowledge and most tools.

Did my buddys LT in my garage on the floor in a day. Pretty simple but if you do it you have to make sure you've got a jack that will lift the trans up high enough. I had to bench press his trans (not fun) cause the jack we had was 3" too short

I usually work for alcohol but in this case I'd have to decline. It is a relatively easy job with the right tools but its not a small job. If I did the job I'd run it through the shop because after doing one on the ground I'll not do it again. Easy access to lift and trans jack have made me lazy.

The Cobalt's clutch job is relatively easy, but GM designed the car in such a way to make it painfully time consuming, especially without a lift. The easiest way to do the clutch is to drop the engine and trans out the bottom by undoing the subframe, but doing it without a car lift to raise the body off the engine cradle complicates things. The average clutch job at a dealership with the stock clutch on the Cobalt will easily run you a grand, most of it labor cost.

Absolutly retarded. I may have found a guy anyway that may help me do it. He has access to a lift and all the tools, he just needs to look at the procedure and we may do it soon. Thanks for your input gentlemen!

Hey Randy, it's not that hard but the ss is not that easy either. the proper way to do it is get an engine cradle to support the engine, drop the subframe, don't pull the whole engine like someone else said. The SS/SC is a bit of a pain because of the oil cooler makin it hard to get to the bell bolts. Not a bad job, but i would NOT do it on the floor, F That!!! We bill about 8 hours to do them.
