Help! simple question

ok so i did an engine replacement on my 05 2.2l. Now i have one problem left, my charging system is not working and my simple question is, the black wire coming off the alternator, where does it go exactly? my friend hooked it up when i wasn't looking and i was too dumb to mark it when i took it off, now im not sure where it goes. i thought it was a ground since its black but then where is the power wire? im assuming i hooked it up wrong because i just doubt the new alternater(well used but with like 10000kms on it only) is screwed too. sorry for being dumb but i have never worked with an alternator with only one terminal before.

there is only one wire, aside from the little plug with 22guage wires. tested with a multimeter and i get nothing, so its a possibility that the 2nd alt is fried too but i wand to make sure i am not doing something simple wrong. also cannot get it bench tested atm. im assuming that the wire must be a power wire but i get no voltage reading from it, or amperage reading. nor do i get any kind of reading from the small plug wires...
