How to check if a TOB is good?

Whats up everybody.. Just picked up a LSJ trans for my car from Mongorat, (cool guy). The trans already has a throw out bearing on it, Mongo said it was basically new, Im not doubting his word or anything, but just to be safe is there a way I can check if its good ot not before i put this trans in

Not that I know of but regardless, just replace it. It's not an overly expensive part and it's worth the peace of mind knowing you have a brand new one and won't have to disassemble the car again to replace it.

Yeah i was thinking that. Not sure what i want to do yet, If there is a way i can check it, ill just do that. it seems to be fine.

Also the trans is from a LSJ, I have a LNF... Does anyone know if that throw out bearing is gonna work for y car? It doesent matter that it's from a LSJ does it?

That means it's probably an LSJ tob and LSJ guys usually upgrade to the LNF tob because it is a better part. It will physically work but the fact that it is probably a lesser quality part is just another reason to swap it

If it has the green band around it, it's the LSJ TOB.
Swap it while its out.

What info do you want? Change it.

If you don't want to spend the money, leave it in there and take the trans back out later to change it.

The LSJ one isn't quite as strong as the LNF, as mentioned, so you should update it anyway.

As long as it is out of the car, you can't put pressure on it to test it's function anyway, so unless it was sticking or leaking horribly, you can't test it.

I have my stock LNf tob with like 15 k on it I think ima use that one... The LNf tob don't have a rubber boot around it right?

all the advice you are getting is right on. But you seem to be determined to go with that transmission that Mongorat sold you, ( a good part I am sure) and a good plan ( different ratio than LNF ) but with a used throw out bearing. If it works, fine, good for you. If it doesnt, we can all ask you " was it worth it?" because now you have to pull the trans out again....

X2... seems kinda silly to me that you have an LNF but are going to install an inferior trans to it. technically it is the same trans but the final drive ratio is longer because thats what turbo cars like. and throwing in a used TOB is retarded. you have it out, do yourself a favor and buy a new one.

I swapped TOB's when I did my trans back in February, from the one that was in the "new" trans, to the one that was in my old one. I was iffy about it at first, but have had no issues. I just didnt want to spend 160 bucks for a TOB. And as far as I know, besides the LNF, all ecotec TOBS are the same internally, although they may look different on the out side. The only thing is that the part going through the bell housing has to be swapped from cobalt to delta to jbodys

Ive read that the LSJ is more reliable than a LNf trans? Due to the ratio on the LSJ it puts less stress on everything in the trans.. I will be ordering a new LNF TOB just to be on the safe side.

And has anyone done a LNf trans to LSJ swap? If so how different did the gears feel? Is it still like the LNfs? Like really good on the highway?

It's only about a 5% change, not gonna notice much. I did one for a local LNF, and the car was pretty much the same. The gearing is long on these cars, all of them. The LNF just gets even longer

I have run 4.45 since 04. its a nice ratio, the gearbox lasts longer but the cruising rpm is higher of course, and the gas mileage costs you 2 gallons a tankful compared to a 3.86 LNF trans.

So the 3.82 is basically the same as the 4.05.. Just don't want my car to be significantly slower in the long run, I loved how the 3.82 gears were.

They can't compare. 100 rpms at cruise isn't gonna be noticable. They rev higher, so the gears top out higher anyway. Most LSJ's can rev to 7200 at least, I was at 7600 with springs. So I was finishing gears past the MPH where the average tuned LNF would anyway. Gas mileage is totally dependant on how you drive, and the DI motors are more efficent anyway.
