I bet you have never been asked this before!

Ok, I know this is going to sound maybe a little weird, oh yeah, HI, I'm Jeremy, I am new here and this is my first post, weeee!!!

Ok, now on to my question...

Does the Cobalt share it's bottom end with any other car in the industry that is rwd? Making it rwd is very crucial to my build up. It has to be in order for my build to be even remotely conceivable. If I have to ghetto rig a camaro's bottom end or a corvettes to the cobalt, I'll do it. But hopefully, something will somewhat fit.
I love that little bugger

All the Delta cars that I'm aware of are all FWD. Not sure about the European platform though (the Astra), but I think they're all FWD for the most part as well.

I cant think of a single Delta car that is RWD.

I too, can not speak for European cars, but I have my doubts.

What are ya thinkin? LS2 Cobalt?

the HHR is available as AWD, and it's on the delta platform.
and the solstice is a rwd, and it has the 2.0L in it. ( not exactley sure what was modified )

While GM played with the idea, it never did make it into production. There are no AWD HHR’s

If you pay enough money, you can make this a rear wheel drive BUT as much as I wish this was RWD I can't justify spending that much money. Let us know how\where\cost if you get this done.

solstice AISIN or 5L40 is your best bet, what hp levels are you anticipating?

i have a little tranny build of my own hopefully being finished late summer, if you dont mind trying a little innovation, the 4T65-E(M76) might work

so how are you going to run the drive shaft to the rear axle, if you dont mind my asking? lowering the engine? which rear axle are you going to use?

RWD V8 Cobalt

I spoke to a very reputable GM performance division consultant at the NYIAS and he had pictures of an LS7 stuffed into a cobalt that was converted to RWD. He said it ran GM about 200K for parts and to engineer it to handle well. I also saw at his booth a V8 solstice that he built ::hint hint who I was speaking to:: (I spoke to the designer/engineer for about an hour but said the pics could not go public and will never go public )

Remember the Focus RS8? The only Focus I'd be proud to own.

I'm a ford man at heart and actually the only reason I own the coby is for a daily driver , my weekend play toy is an 90 notchback mustang with an AMP 408 stroker and 3 stg nitrous . along with some other go fast items

Um, the Solstice is not the same platform as the Cobalts......so you'd still be ghetto rigging it. And for the record the only Solstice out right now has the 2.4VVT. The GXP will have the 2.0 supposedly, but it is not out yet.

lol, this ones good, however i was thinking a northstar v8 out of a cadillac..... alread front wheel drive!, i dont think it would fit, but you could possibly, with a lot of work take the blown 3.8 from a buick or something and work with that..... they have sick parts out for those...... as for making a cobalt a rwd, possibly talk to the guys at mantapart.com, they offer a rwd conversion for the j-bodies, its big money though, good luck with it!

Well, I am going to be doing a Chevy||| Nova kinda "in honor of" yada yada. I am a really big fan of Novas, and since the cobalt comes in an ss package, it would be great to drop in a rwd system, 5 speed manual, with tubbed rear end with fat tires, the ss badges, and custom made machined emblems saying chevy 3. since the Nnova was the chevy 2, I thought it would be cool for this one to be the 3. Oh yeah I know a company that makes a small block 454 with an aluminum block that puts out 600 hp when set up right. What you guys think so far?

I know driveshaftshop.com makes custom axles and drive shafts, would it be possible that they might be able to make me a custom rearend to fit the cobalt?

I forgot to mention they make cv axles for imports and domestic as well as rwd vehicles and they have systems to uphold over 800 hp so I am hoping that they might be able to do something.
