LNF Race Trans?
Hello all
I have found a good deal for a replacement Trans for my LNF
It is a 4.45 Final Drive GM Race trans
The unit is brand new but the seller doesnt know a lot about it
Anyone have any info about it
So far he knows that it has the Quaife and upgraded Syncros

How does he know that it has upgraded synchros? If he doesn't know much about it, I would be leery as all get out. I don't know if GM even made an LNF race trans. The 4.45 FD is from an LSJ, if I remember correctly, which takes alot of stress off third gear, and is indeed the same FD that ZZP runs. It works well in the 1/4 with our gear ratios, as ZZP has proven.
I would get WAY more info. Get the tag code, and have a dealer look it up. I jsut don't trust sellers that claim its something special, but don't know much about it. Ya know?

The guy selling this rebuilds trans units also
He is taking mine as a core
This 4.45 im getting is a new unit
Pic of the case
Pic of the Code tag
Anyone have any info on the background of these trans? I looked up the Part number on partsdirect and it comes up as a MU1 trans?
What fluid is best in these?

I don't think MU1 is correct. Everything I pull up about it says the MU1 trans was from the mid 90's. The 'M' codes refer to the gear ratios used, like the typical Cobalt F35 is an MU3 gear set.
Also, concerning it being new or not... its new, I didn't doubt that. Just saying its likely an LSJ trans.
Remember, GM didn't have any LNF powered race Cobalts (that most people know about).

I don't have any resources at the moment beyond Google. Call Tom at Crate Engine Depot, he might be able to give you a hand, or at least point you to someone that could.

According to the newest trans fluid thread you can also use the lnf fluid as it is a newer/better fluid.

You really should use the GM stuff. Its a no service trans, and the fluid is supposed to last about 100k miles. I used Redline 75-90 in my trans, and it held up just fine. I know some people will argue against it, but I saw no adverse effects, first hand, though, I did change the fluid every year to keep it fresh.

came out of GBM or GS racing in Ontario.
looks like this
works good.
were LNF units re-built up for/by GMR for Koni cars....4.45.
that ratio is also found in a vue trans that can mate up to an LE5 car...
also found in this car...
