LNF - Third Gear High RPM
So trying to diagnose whats going on. 08 TC about 68000 miles. Just recently I've been missing third gear more often than usual. Normal driving, its all fine. Shifter goes out of 2 and into 3 slowly at "around town" RPMs fine.
Just on the way home tonight I went WOT in 2nd from about 40 to 60, went to shift into 3rd and it just did not take it. Redlined, slid it into 4th calmly, went back down to 3 to check its ok, and everything was fine. Just before this I did a pull in 3rd to 4th at 60-65 to about 85 and it was fine.
It's done this a few times recently, again only at high RPM, during a pull. Tried to NLS about 2 years ago and never did it again. I only really romp on this thing 1 or 2 times a week, always above 3K. Trying to see what everyone thinks.
Maybe my left foot isn't fully disengaging the clutch or I'm releasing too soon before I'm in gear by a fraction of second? Its still stock and only slips if I go WOT in a high gear or really low in 2 which has only happened in an emergency once.
thoughts/experiences? Im hearing these trannys are being hard to find. Backup plan is buying one of these riced out SS/SCs on craigslist (metro detroit, a couple rebuilt titles) and harvesting the transmission.....

Or may want to check the cable clamps. If they aren't adjusted right it can make it harder to hit. I changed trans recently and still haven't found the exact right position to always get it into 5th gear.
Btw there are a few guys on Facebook that sell rebuilt transmissions, some without cores needed. I have a backup trans because I also started getting nervous and don't want to spend the cash on a 6 speed or f23 setup.

As ECaulk said, replace shift cables. I had the exact same issue at the road track where at high rpms (close to redline) it did not want to go into third. I asked Powell who built my tranny and he said replace shift cables. Apparently they are insufficiently shielded and overheat. I replaced mine and the problem disappeared completely.
