when i first got my SS/SC my clutch and I were not getting along as well as I wanted us to...........but after we both sat down and talked out our problems it all worked out! she told me what she needed me to do for this relationship to work and I told her what I needed from her.......now we are working together great.......I think next week I'm gonna ask her if she can handle stage 2

Clutch is great at 29% is utterly horrible. At bare minimum, it should be 50%

i will agree that our clutch could be better.
but you can see from the poll that just by simply adjusting your driving style to the car (which a person SHOULD do with every car regardless)
you can have great success with it.

I am reading between the lines here then. Cutch good for light pedaling of the gas to get through turns but not a good drag clutch.

that I could agree with. On a track day I had zero problems with the clutch. just wish I had LSD...LOL

In the sticky at the top, "where is says how to make you clutch stop slipping." They said that it is our fault that the clutch slips if we shift at too low of an rpm. And that we need to shift at about 3,000.

If its our fault, why do our cars have shift lights? Cause if yuor driving slow, most of the time they say to shift below 3,000. And when you drive in the city and stop and go traffic, it isnt always easy to shift at 3,000. If they cant make a clutch that can handle city driving why was it installed in our cars?

Thats the SS/SC they are talking about, which does not have that shift light activated. Its not that it can't handle city driving, it is just very heat-sensitive. I shift at lower RPMs and make it work, you just have to match revs carefully and not slip the clutch, which is how you should drive anyway. The clutch could be made out of a little better material, but it is ok for what it is.

I consider my cobalt moderately modifed, and I have 33 grand on the odometer. My factory clutch does just fine, no slips, unless I'm launching at the track, which I'm rarely at the track. In my opinion, the factory clutch is good, provided you know how to drive, and don't beat the hell out of the thing everyday.

When I shift at least at 3000 Rpm the clucth doesn't slip at all. I personally think the clutch is just fine.

my clutch doesn't slip when driving it at all when driving when normally driving no matter when or what RPM I ship. the car pulls hard everygear. the tires can get spun on the street. I if that is all I did with the car I would be saying yeah the clutch is good. but when I go for a fun time for the drag strip it just does not have a strong enough clutch to handle that kind of work. I dont believe I will go back till I get a new car or new clutch. If I cant drive the car to its peak with out slipping then that is like slowly snapping an axle. but I would rather rep;lace an axle obviously. Car works well on track GP driving but without LSD it is a little frustrating.

I'll be honest. My clutch does great when i drive it properly. If I baby it, it sucks.

So it all comes down to the driver. You have to drive these cars spiritedly.

Look I got it. YOUR CLUTCH IS MOTHER OF ALL CLUTCH's. and you credit that to knowing how to drive and that everyone else that has a problem is just stupid, dont know how to drive, and it is in no way the fault of the car. my clutch could have been as good as yours. RIGHT on! (or could you have dynoed more cause your not aware of any slipage). Oh and chirping in third on the street means not much to me. a good second gear pull at the track without slipping would impress me with that much power. so let me know when that happens with slicks on.

sorry for the sarcasm but you see I dont think your clutch is bad, mine is. and so are a few others. but it is a mute point. you wont hear any of it. or even that it is a possibility. thats fine. topic dead. we just disagree due to our own experiences.

great job with the car.

The clutch can be used very effectively after getting used to it.

Having said that: The clutch is not a great clutch. I have never had a problem with clutch slip until this car. The car is way too jerky, this is my third standard and never had a car jerk like this. The clutch had a hard time handling the stock power.

It took me a while to get used to the clutch. Although now I can get the best out of it.

I will admit mine is relatively stock (intake only). But I had to relearn manual trans on this car. Probably going to hit 30k miles by the end of the week, and I've had it since the end of June 06. Haven't had a problem out of the clutch, knock on wood, even though I am on my second set of axles (relearning manual and a factory fault).

32k On My Sc And The Clutch Was Slipping Every Time I Hit Boost, I Just Got Done Replacing The Clutch This Morning, The Problem I Had Was Not The Clutch Disc, But The Presure Plate Was Junk, When I Removed It It Had No Unsprung Force What So Ever, The Presure Plate Was Heavily Glazed And Clutch Side Of The Plate Was Gone, The Flywheel Side Looked Brand New. My Car Is An 05" But The Clutch Disc And Presure Plate Have Been Revised For 07' And 05-06 Supersedes To 07 Parts, So Gm Does Recognize There Is A Problem, Just Not Publicly

I just bought an 07 ss/sc and the clutch has never slipped. Ever since I bought it, every time i push the clutch in, it makes a clicking noise. I have driven stick cars my whole life and have never had this. Is this noise normal.

if you cant tell that he was HARD on the throttle before allowing the clutch to engage, your deaf

have a close listen. his shift was to slow, and the RPMS were free revving upwards well before you could hear the clutch engagement trying to drop them.

his clutch was slipping due to driver error.

your funny. you can tell that. and the clutch should be strong enough anyway to handle that. but my point is that you actually cant tell that is is slipping due the foot work in the car.

mine didnt slip like that anyway. it was a solid into second. good from 3000 rpm to 4500 with no slip then it stated to slip so much I had to lift. some clutchs just suck doubter.

i hated the clutch. i wud drive it without being harsh n it grinded 24/7. i had syncros replaced, and still the same thing. n not just with me driving. GM would not lemon it nor wud they replace it. I bought a stage 2+ n i love it.
