So, starting as of 20 minutes ago, I left work and my tranny started popping out of 2nd gear. Time for a new clutch? Tranny? Or just a simple adjustment? Like I said, it just started this afternoon as I left work. Was perfectly fine earlier today.

Id adjust the cables first and see where that takes you. Should have nothing to do with the clutch. Do you have an abnormally heavy shift knob, or do you frequently rest your hand on the shifter?

Just adjusted the cables to see. Yes and yes. Lol. But when I rest my hand on the shifter, I have it to where the weight is pushing towards whatever gear it's in. If that makes sense.

Adjusting didn't help. Because this is my daily and I have no other ride, what are my options? Have it rebuilt, or new transmission? Which would be more cost efficient?

Only second gear. It'll go in, but as soon as I touch the gas, it pops out.

i was gonna say maybe the roll pin, but from my understanding, that would happen with all the gears and the shifter would be sloppy. car drives fine and everything though? trans sounds good?

Perfectly fine except 2nd. When it pops out, the shifter stays in the 2nd position and grinds. I'll take a video real quick before I head into work.

Can you hold it in gear?

Also, you never rest your hand on the shifter in gear. Even if you are pushing it to where it is in that gear. You put stress and pressure on the interals that way.

For now just run first a little higher and shift straight to 3rd

Holding it in gear doesn't work either. Tried. I've been going straight to third.

Sounds like you broke the gear

Stop resting your hand on the shifter. Unnecessary wear.

That's the thing. I can put it in 2nd and decelerate. It'll stay as long as I don't touch the gas, but as soon as I try to accelerate, it pops out.

Theres a chamfer on the dog teeth of the speed gear to hold it in gear, sounds like youve worn that down. Do you shift into 2nd really hard a lot? Might need a new 2nd gear blocker ring or speed gear.

And get rid of the heavy shift knob

And get rid of the heavy shift knob

but its so comfortable. D= lol. i've already started to stop. called a local company today, they have a used 5 speed with 72k miles. $350+$75 core+shipping. since i was already going to take this crap out, time for light flywheel and clutch upgrade. i have the f23 tranny, but cant find a clutch/flywheel for the 2.2 so will the 2.4 or 2.0 clutch/flywheel work?

I don't think people realize how bad it is to rest your hand on the shifter.

Really the hand on the shifter problem wouldnt affect 2nd gear unless he rode around in second all the time. Get rid of the heavy shift knob lol

I've had a heavy knob on my f23 for a few years with no issue. But I also have an armrest, so that may help relieve the stress of the resting habit.

im so irritated. i do NOT have the money for all this crap. since the flywheel and clutch bold to the crank, would an ss transmission fit over that and bolt up? when i called lkq, they said the transmission code was something other than f23, but i cant remember what the guy said. just an "in case' question really.

Did he call it the m86 or something like that? Mu3 is the f35, but the other one is the f23
