Then you are probably better off with the stock 5 speed. 5th has a higher top speed than the Quaife 6th.

I would see if you could get the first gear changed to the one used in the 6 speed conversion also. I wish they would just release a first gear swap. That is really all this car needs.

If they are trying to sell just a gear set for 4 grand and you still have to pay to have it put in or do it yourself.. they are crazy... I can buy a full auto to man. convo. including a tranny, pedels, cables, cluch, flywheel ect ect.. for a 68 camaro for less than 4 grand... and its not that much better to start with.

Quaife has not determined the gearing yet.

Okay, probably because of my lack of gear ratios and the like, but why is that first gear so great? Does it help with acceleration/speed and stuff. Sorry for a dumb question, but my knowledge of transmissions are zill to none, been reading on them a lot lately.

Also, would be our new pattern with the six speed( sixth would obviously go after fifth but where would R go?)? Would our current short shifters still be compatible with the new gearings (B&M and Hurst, etc)?

The new first gear will not allow the tires spin as easily, will not bounce the rev limiter as easily and will drop less RPMs shifting to second.

I just received some updates from Quaife on this.....

Gear Ratios are as follows:
1-2.72
2-1.89
3-1.368
4-1.045
5-.833
6-.704

This will not include the LSD, and will be just the shafts and gears. Affirmative pricing on the retail side will be $4195. Estimated availibility will be 8/1/07

makes first gear move liveable also shifting from 1t to second there will not be as big as a drop in rpms, so you shouldn't fall out of the powerband. The price tag doesn't really make it worth it. You have to pay 4k for just the gears. Then you need to drop the tranny and have them installed...which if your not doing the work will be really expensive. On top of that, a lsd isn't included, so that would be another 1k or so plus install.

lol, when's the Group Buy on this! I would be really interested if it was even a little over priced. At $4,000 I can't even take it serious. But Subscribed either way.

Any Vendors willing to buy it and sell it at cost to me feel free! lol I get a bouns around August, so that would go a long way towards this 6-speed.

Well Quaife did not put too much room for mark-up in this to offer it much lower.

I don't know if this has been covered, but does the stock Quaife that comes with the G85 work with these gears? I assume it does...

Other than the LSD, the two Cobalt SS/SC F35 transmissions are identical. So, yes, it does.

I'm digging into a F40 swap, as I have researched some folks using it in V8's applications with no trouble so far. $4000 and those gear ratios implies a race-only application, IMHO, and knowing a little about the testing, the 4.45 final gears out of the L200 were most likely used for best results. Thus, those of you who are interested, would be best served by getting a donor used L200 F35 trans, Quaife gears and LSD, and having a good mechanic get them together. There have been way too many problems with techs not successfully installed LSD's in the F35, however.

I completely agree with the racing application part. I just don't see this as a practical upgrade for a daily driven car. Not only is the price high, but I just don't see it being the best "fix" for our tranny whoes...

Has anyone brought up getting a donor tranny and just having everything cryo'ed?

Thats a shame! This thing is just out of the relm of my mind accepting to spend that much $$$. Like, I wouldn't physically be able to click Buy Item. My Brain wouldn't let me do it. If it were like, maybe even a Grand less, then I'd be Wayy more interested. at 4, theres just no way! DAMN!

Wow. That should really open up 1st gear. Can someone recalculate the graphs on the first post? I would like to see what the new gears result in.
