Tech Bulletin for clutch? 1st to 2nd Shift, Slipping Clutch...

So we have problems with the shift from 1st to 2nd gear. I think most us have experienced the hesitation of getting into second gear or the clutch not letting go fast enough and slipping. Did we ever get an official tech bulletin from GM on fixing the problem? I guess a few cars have had their master cylinders replaced? I would love to find a bulletin I could take into my dealer and just tell them to do it.

I'm not sure if this is the case but us Fbody guys had the same problem. GM actually inserted a restrictor into the fluid line running from the master cylinder to the clutch. What would happen is that restrictor would limit the amount of fluid to the clutch making it hard to get into gear. What GM wanted was to delay that shift so that you couldn't quickly bang the gears and cause stress to the drive train, what most of us ended up doing is drilling out the restrictor for perfec and clean shifts.

I'm guessing the Cobalts just have a lame master cylinder, but maybe it could be something stupid like a restrictor...?

Anybody got some solid info?

So no responses yet, what about you guys with the replaced master cylinders? Have you felt any difference, and did they replace the MC the same part?

Im not sure about the restricter but after looking at all the parts for the clutch system it would have to be part of the master cylinder. Its not in the lines I can tell you that.'

There is no fix as of now but people are working on it.

I have a fix in the works that is being tested now but its only a 95% fix. And may not help some at all.

Ill post on that in a few weeks after my testing is all done. Im at work now and need to test some more befor I can post. Im going to get flaimed big time when I post trust me. No one is going to like what I have to say. Thats the main reason for the extensive testing.

Yeah, I'd like to know a little too if that's not to much to ask. I drove my friend's new honda.... it shifted perfectly, no grinding during fast shifts, the stick moved like it was in astroglide. Mine's a pain in the ass. The one thing I hate about my Cobalt is how it shifts. Sometimes it grinds when you shift normally, but it's stiff as a bitch.

I experience this from neutral to 1st and 1st to 2nd. Not all the time but enough to aggrevate me. Can someone that talks to GM email them and ask them whats up?

My car is at the dealership now for this and they say they dont know what it is and they said there calling tech support.

But if one of us who talkes to GM could contact them i would feel better because you know how the dealers are, and sometimes the only way we figure stuff out from GM is if we talk to them ourselves.
Thanks.

Seems like i dont have enough (or at least a shitty lubricant) in my transmission. Either that or they didn't grease the stick properly.

There is an "how to" That I did at the top of the forum. Read it. It will stop your slipping. So far it has worked for every one that has done it.

^Yep. Thats what I have come up with also.
I think that the clutch is fine. But the pressure plate is a POS.
GM did this to prevent trans problems and broken half shafts.
Didnt work for **** but they did it.
