A thought on Air bags....

Ive heard of a lot of people using the pee wee football mod to stiffen up rear springs to reduce squat for increased traction. Ive found threads, and saw people also using air bags as a more permanent solution. I was actually getting ready to pull the trigger on buying a set, then I stopped to think for a minute. The air bags were first used in rear wheel drive cars to reduce squat and instead plant the rear tires. When a rear drive car squats ,the shock to the rear tires is significantly reduced. I would describe it like hitting you with a boxing glove, then hitting you with the same glove only on a spring on the end of my arm. Obviously the spring hit will absorb all the energy and wont hurt much> I know, stupid example but puts an image as to what Im getting at. Now this being the case, rear wheel weight transfer is much greater WITH the bags then without. In a front wheel drive car, wouldn't the bags make the weight transfer off the front wheels GREATER, not less? Id love to hear some thoughts and comments, as well as some feedback from someone who actualy used them?

The concept is rather simple.

If the forward acceleration causes the cars front end to lift then the rear has to dip. You put something in the rear to decrease the ammount it can flex and now it will require more energy to push it down. Since the car cant lift as much (because the rear is blocked from dropping so much) the cars front end will stay down.

Think about what I said though, did you skim thru the whole blurb? Squatting would possibly take less weight off the front then the hard hit of a more solid suspension. Are you running any type of bags or footballs black?

I ran bags.

it's simply. Your car is no more than a lever. back end don't go down, front end don't go up.

^ this.

don't over think it. the weight transfer takes time and energy. energy that you could be using to get down the track. same concept with the limit chains on the front struts, to stop the front end from coming up during the launch.

^ This. I had the airlift brand bags installed, and I will tell you they helped for sure. As said, the rear end dips on takeoff, but with the bags in there this is greatly reduced, wasting less power through the suspension, the front wheels hook up almost instantly.

We're talking about the air bag inserts that go inside your existing rear springs. generally referred to as helpers. A fully bagged setup is a different story altogether.
