Throttle Body Spacers
My friend was talkin today and he said he ordered a throttle body spacer for his truck and its supposed to add 20hp & about 3M.P.G. I asked if they make em for cars too and he said they make em for everything. First can someone explain what a throttle body spacer is? And do they make em for cobalts?

Thorttle body spacers create a tirbine effect on the incoming air if i remember right. Kind of like one of those "tornado" thing you put in your air duct....except these work and are proven.

i was wondering the same thing, i used to have an S10, and the spacers were proven to up 15HP, they werent all that expensive, would it be a pain in the ass for a Supercharged?

look on other car forums, theres something that one of my boys got for his 350z called an intake spacer plenum. Not sure if its the same thing but look it up on other forums and see.

airaid makes them for alot of cars so, I emailed them and they said they won't try to produce a tbs for the 2.2 and 2.4 cobalts due to the lack of room between the hood and throttle body.

But what they do is cause a venturi effect that can increase airflow/velocity
they work best for carborated and TBI motors but can help, althoe slighty with Port injected motors.

The venturi effect is that spinning. And the tornado was an example because the infomercial shows how it spins the air, its the same effect.
And yea, no one buy a tornado...

Yah that whole venturi effect is a good idea with NA engines but i would be interested to see any gains by using it in a S/C application seeing as how the S/C kinda does it's own thing with the air, you know compressing it and all would probably quickly change that venturi motion. Not saying it wont work but it would be interesting to see some numbers.

spinning effect is not ventury effect....this is such bs part...it came from the days of carbuartion where you'd actually add a spacer of diff thickness to increase the plenum volume of the intake, thus, in some case, would switch the power/tq curve a little...you had either 4 hole spacers that helped the intake signal at the carb or just a spacer that increased the plenum volume...the ONLY way to see if it would work for your motor was to try different ones at the track or dyno and see...sometime it made no diffs, sometime you'd gain 15-30hp, and sometime you'd loose 30hp...

not true! you could see more mpg with a bigger T/B. more air = more power. it just depends on how you drive.
when Mike went up to 42lb injectors he went up about 6-8 more MPG. unless he has his foot in it all the time!
