Time to upgrade to bigger axels. Broke on stock tires 1.9 60fts

Damn, you broke yours on stock tires?

I'm going to need to upgrade mine then cause I have all the same stuff, just yet to upgrade the clutch...waiting to get mine back from CM. *sigh*

I wonder if the driveshaft shop has the ones for the RL out yet, but I want something stronger than the 400hp rated ones...I want 500 to be safe and for how much it costs, its not something I wanna upgrade to next year again. The only reason the RL holds up better is because your axles have a bend in them that weakens them and the RLs aren't really bent with how everything sits.

Yep, thats why they have to make a different set for the RLs than the Cobalts.

I know that Jason's (Max_boost) has different axels in the 04's. They don't taper down near the ABS ring like the ones in the cobalt do. Should make them a little stronger then the stock cobalt ones, but nothing major.... I can see them breaking with a really good launch and no clutch slippage.

Hope these new axels hold up... from the looks of them installed... I was impressed and Rob(FAST06SS) has beaten the hell out of his and launched numerous times and so far so good.

Its not a matter of them breaking or anything like that, its the fact that they won't fit. The cobalts require that bend to fit properly. If that was the case then the driveshaft shop wouldn't have to be making two completely different sets of axles.

I know I am going to have to go to heavy duty axles, not if but when. But right now I don't want to break the stock ones. So if I had one extra axle for just in case I would feel a little more confident that I could drive the car home. UltraRev has the axles listed as the same part number. Is this incorrect? And from what I have heard it is just the '04s that are different, correct?

Ya, good luck trying to buy them on the website. They list the part number, but I couldn't get them when I tried early this week. The price was cheper so I figured with the extra 10% off coupon(COBALTSS) I could get these axels cheaper and faster... WRONG....My understanding is they don't have them in stock, so your going to have to get them from Intense. Check out the driveshaft shop's website. The first run they made are sold out and Intense is the sole distributer now. I don't think Ultra rev can get them anymore. (Maybe I'm wrong, but when I tried and needed them...I couldn't get them from UltraRev).

From my understanding.. Intense and the Driveshaft Shop worked hand in hand making these things and bringing them to market. Intense was suppose to be the only company that was suppose to sell them.

I don't care about buying heavier axles just yet. I don't have the money to do it. I just want to buy a stock axle and have it as a backup to throw in if I break. Ultrarev was the only site I found with part numbers for both the Saturn and Cobalt.

is there any axles that will hold more than 400 hp???

i have a guy who works at chevy who races a cobalt (hes the owners son) and hes helping me get to like 450 horsepower

he said it wont take much

I"m gettin a minum of 550 hp axles made up this week... I"ll be testing for about a month before they are available to the public... I"ll keep you posted

I wouldn't worry if you have a G85. That Quaiffe diff is STRONG. I'm not sure about the rest of the tranny though.

Sending whats left of either tranny to my guy and having go through it to find the weak spots... hopefully he can do something with it... still waiting to see what happens at the dealer

update for me.... warranty got voided lol.... had a set of stock axles sent to TAG, hopefully something new will be available in the next month... I'm running Rob's DSS axles and so far so good, about 9 runs on slicks and 15 others on street tires and no problems yet

well that project got scrapped until I get my hands on the the new 08 turbo ss suspension parts, hubs are just too small on our cars to do antyhing bggger than the DSS ones.
Once the parts are available though I'm getting this **** taken care of,
But still on Rob's original DSS level 2 axles and no problems after 2 years so far, but I will be kicking thepower levels up another notch soon
