Tranny passed away last night...

I raced a cavalier last night (turbo'd) and when i shifted to third it was like i broke an axle...revs went straight up. 1st 2nd 4th and 5th all worked fine. I drove it home and by that time the burning smell was very strong. Tranny fluid was leaking out of the bell housing. So im fucked.I need a new tranny. Im thinking about doing the quafe 6 spd. but prolly not. Im looking for a used tranny with lsd right now. Does anyone know the chances of me ruining my clutch with the fluid in the bell housing. Im worried becuz alot of work went into installing that clutch and it was an 1100 dollar piece. I will be pissed! I prolly shouldnt have drove it home but i had no choice it would have gotten f'd with. i didnt have any money for a truck either.

if you soaked the clutch with tranny fluid, it's not long for this world...

Hmm I've read about people blowing trannies with lots of mods, but you seem to be at power levels that shouldn't hurt it all. You can try warrenty, but most likely once they see your aftermarket clutch they will blame it.

If you did install the clutch yourself, you might try replacing the syncro yourself since you already know how to pull the transmission.

Good luck man and keep us updated.

It's not the Synchro... if the Synchro went out... the Tranny would just GRIND when it when in to gear. Trust me... I've got a tranny in my storage room for a reason

Sounds like a serious problem... AND there is nothing cheap about these trannies. I fried my Synchro blocker ring... and it was gonna be $1000+ just for parts. I got a used tranny for $750.

$1000 just for this part!!! RIDICULOUS!

And working on the tranny yourself is out of the question... you HAVE to have the proper tools (they cost $500+ and come from Germany IIRC), otherwise, when you pull your gears, they'll come out like this:

Nah there is a special puller you need. Have you even pulled this tranny apart before?

Good info here. Is there are clear reason so many trannys are popping? Or is it just random luck.

i blow the diffs out of mine. 1st was all stock with 18s then the 2nd went with exhaust and cai with 18s and the the 3rd went at the track with stage 3 clutch and billet flywheel exhaust, cai and supercharged and 18s.

i think its the 18s thats killing the trans, but i would have thought the axles would have went first...

They won't warranty Trans crap... almost guaranteed. Have your mom or grandma take the car in to the Dealer! They probably won't even think twice about warrantying it, they'll just do it... and in record time!!!

You can have it, I'll meet you halfway. Sound good? How long does it take you to get to Cinci?

That ring and that gear are the only things wrong. I can have you a new gear for it though. Its NON-LSD, only had like 18,000 miles.

And honestly... I think it's the winter months that hurts me. It's 40* outside now, and I can feel my shifts getting rougher, the colder it gets.

So, today I had a long talk with my dealer. I was honest with them. I told them the exedy cluch was put in. THey said they are going to look at it in the morning and if the tech cant prove that the clutch caused it they will do it under warranty. I dont see how the hell hes gonna do that without pulling the transmission. I'm going to go 1st thing in the morning to talk to the tech and see whats up. They wanna charge me 100 bucks just to do that. Im thinking they are gonna say they cant tell until they pull the tranny. then theyre gonna try to **** me and make me pay for everything. so...im just gonna say if they wont do it fukem, get my car and put the stock clutch back in, stock shifter back in, and go to another dealer. I also made it clear to the service advisor if theyre gonna void my warranty by looking at it, i wont even bring it. He said he wouldnt do that to me. he knows i have all the stock parts. so..if it gets out of his control and i lose my warranty...well...im gonnna have to get that guy for real...

well guess what they changed their mind. gotta put the stock clutch back in and take it to another dealer. the dealer was cool about it. the service manager told me himself to do that and they didnt void anything.
