Tranny Problem

Lately ive noticed this problem with my vehicle. I have an 06 SS/SC with the g85 upgrade. Well anyways ive noticed that when i try to shift into first, it feels like something is blocking it and it wont let me shift into gear. I have to move it to into second and then back to first in order for it to let me get into gear. It's only happend twice but i wanna make sure i take care of it before the problem gets bigger. Anyone else have this problem.
Also it kind of also does this when trying to shift into 5th gear now that i think about it. Any info on what it could be?

I don't know about anyone else, but occasionaly I have the same problem. I don't really think much about it since my Z24 used to do the same thing from time to time.

Its the syncros/clutch , not saying they are bad, my LS does the same thing in the mornings from a cold start. If i leave my foot on the clutch after starting it it goes right into gear, if i take my foot off the clutch in nutral, and try and put it back into gear its difficult. Almost like the clutch isnt fully disengageing, because if i shift in to 3rd or 4th that dont have double syncros, foot off the brake, the car moves slighty. So between momentum of internal parts spinning hte syncros, or just them not lining up without some movement, I can just about bet were not the only ones that have noticed.

whenever i cant get it to go into first i always shift to 4th then to 1st and don't seem to have an issue, it stops the syncros and seems to align the gears to allow it to easly shift to first.

^ agree with blktrax, its likely just your gear mesh and syncros. When the transmission is cold, it will be stiff getting into gear, especially first. Also, if you are rolling to a stop and try and put the car in first gear before you've come to a stop, it will be stiff. I've noticed this several times when the temperature is below 0-Celsius.

I thought it was a safety issue. Anything over 20mph will not let you go into first. Was the same way on my 01 Cavalier.

I believe he was talking about the problem happening in general. I have this problem once in awhile. I usually just take my foot off the clutch and then try again an she goes right in. I don't normally try to put her in 1st unless at a stop or doing like 5 or 10mph, really slow, but then I hate 1st gear..lol

This Is Normal. They Designed It This Way, So If U Want To Re-enter 1st Gear Again U Have To Think About It And Put A Little More Effort Into It, But Nothing Crazy. It Should Be Very Notchy When Cold, Since The Dogteeth On The Blocker-ring And Synchro Are More Straightcut (for Strength/durability) After It Warms Up It Should Be Fairly Smooth, But Not Slip Right In. Also Depending On Style/mileage Of Driving You Do, Alotta Time The Transmission Needs To Be Spinning At A Lower Speed To Smoothly Engage 1st, But Lets Say U Are Riding 2nd Gear Down Put Ur Foot On The Clutch, Go To Put It Tino First, And U Are Locked Out, The Trans. Is Spinning To Fast, But If U Say Place It Into Second/third And Then Shift Into First Ti Works, Or Even Put It Back Into Neutral Let Off The Clutch Pedal And Put It Back Down It Shoudl Also Smoothly Go Into First.

Orrrrrrr U Could Have A Synrcho Problem Lol.. Sry Bout The Caps Keyboard Is Broken.

So this is ok? One of the FAQs on here was "what is the wall i get trying to shift?" and they said it was synchro issues and it should be checked out asap. Made me nervous when i saw it but now it sounds like its not that bad... just some conflicting information..

edit: here it is from FAQ
Q: What's up with the "wall" i get trying to go into gear occasionally?
A: Synchro issues- can be fatal to the tranny, get it checked SOON or even sooner than that if possible. (How do I know you might ask? My baby is in the shop waiting for a new transmission because a roll pin broke the last time that happened to me, and turned the internals to powder)

If its under warranty, drive it like to stole it. Mine does the same thing, if it goes, its getting a whole new trans, im not wasting time with having a tech tear down and rebuild the one I have.

I can't in good faith let this post go. If you beat on your car the dealership may try to deny your warranty and chalk it up to abuse. It's happened countless times to countless members. The old "your tread wear is off" line. Speaking from personal experience, don't drive it like you stole it unless your dealership is top notch.

Yup I made a smart a$$ comment, but common sence should overrule that statement.

Allow me to retort, that your vehicle should be used within the legal limits of the road and your states laws. Also that your vehicle has to fall within the guidlenes of the warranty stated in your owners manual. As noted here from the GM warranty Website:

WHAT IS NOT COVERED
As the vehicle owner, you are responsible for the performance of the scheduled maintenance listed in your Owner’s Manual. In addition to the “What Is Not Covered” section of the Warranty Booklet, this Powertrain Limited Warranty does not cover the following items:

Powertrain wear items, such as clutch linings
Wear items, such as brake linings
Scheduled maintenance items, such as filters, coolants and fluids, and brake pads/linings
Any damage caused by owner/lessee failure to follow scheduled maintenance may not be covered by warranty
Damage due to accident, misuse, alteration or contaminated or poor quality fuel

NOTE: Interim maintenance, checks, inspections, and recommended fluids and lubricants as prescribed in the Owner’s Manual are necessary to keep your vehicle in good working condition.

I'm aware that I can be declined warranty repair and im willing to accept that, because I modified my car to do what I want it to do.
