transmission break down by yellowshowbalt

so after 4 transmissions i went up to get another one tjat they pulled for me.. and they pulled a 03 cavi f23 trans i said man that wount work they said why wouldent it it came from a cavi with a 2.2 i said look theres no upper transmount for the drives side.. so i just drove 2 1/2 hrs for the wrong trans... they then said i could have my money back if i wanted.. i said no i want a good trans.. do you have any others?? he said i have a 07 ion f23 trans but the upper mount is broke off the case.. i looked at it and said hell the other on i had the bell housing was busted and the diff was broke.... so i said ill take that one but i want something back for the trouble.. so they gave me this trans and 250.00 $ back.. so i just spent 4hrs and took 2 transmissions apart and put one together and dident even use a 500.00 special tool from gemany,to do this and dident chip not one tooth..

i have pics of the hole before and after and ill post them tomarow i have to go to work...

btw when i had the trans apart i noticed that the diff had heat scoring..so while looking at that i had an idea... are transmissions use automatic transmission fluid well trans fluid is for friction plates that generate heat.. are cars need a better lubericant they run cool enough but the diffs need a better lube the diff i puled out of my old trans was in perfic shape except for the spiders..the lock pin was worn down where the spiders spin. 1/16th of a in. the spiders then fell down and got hung and out spit the spiders comming out the case.. while looking at the trans it showed signs from lack of lubercation.. but all the gears and sliders were in perfic shape.. but all the bearing showed lack of lubercation... the trans was full of fluid before this hapened... with gm recomended transmission fluid...

so in my opinion we need a better lubercant for these transmissions that will pass through the oil pasages and stick to the gears.. something not so thin...or watery...

so its all back together and ready to install that will be tomarow...

i was thinking about useing some semi sethic harley davidson transmission fluid.. its thin and even when its cold it still moves quickly and it sticks to the gears.. and when you dry rag wiping it off its still slick and on there... yellowshowbalt....

automatic transmission fluid isnt just for clutch plates, its designed for a multitude of things. first off, its a hydralic fluid, used to apply clutches. its also a coolant, and lubricant.

now i agree that atf isnt the best lubricant out there, but it is used in many standards and they dont have issues. the problem with differentials is that when its spinning it hard for lube to get into the side and spider gears, as the carrier flings the oil away. under normal driving conditions this isnt an issue as the side and spiders dont turn that much in the diff carrier, they actualy turn quite slowly. now when you start spinning one tire, the side and spider gears turn very fast, all while the lubricant is being flung away from the diff, and this causes lots of heat, usually siezing a spider gear to the diff pin, spinning it out of the carrier and through the case.

hmmm, i never knew the f35 was a 3 shaft unit, almost any other fwd ive had apart is a 2 shaft.

ive built a couple f23 getrags, they are real simple.
