TWM shifter question

Ok so I know B&M doesn't make a shifter for our 2.2 cobalts yet. I called TWM performance and they said their shifter will work on the 2.2. I hope they aren't wrong because I ordered one. I'm concerned cus I only see the 2.4 guys posting on this shifter.

yes it works for the 2.2, I've seen it personally...its for non SS/SC cars

I've also read of a couple guys running the B&M shifter for the Cavalier on their Ions/Cobalts

That's good, because I really want one. I'll have to post pics and give feedback when I get it.

They are shipping it out on the 4th of July (Canadian company) and I'm hoping to have it by the weekend. I'll let you know how the install goes. The instructions at their website seem really good.

One thing I didn't see addressed on the instructions was the shift boot. Does it need to be modified at all?

shift boot will be fine. it will just be a little bit baggy but absolutly nothing to worry about.

edit: they give you 2 tiny zip ties to use on ur shift boot to secure the top so it doesnt slide down the shifter at all. this will work with the little silver spacer thingy they give u too. its common sense when you get it man. u'll be all good.

Ive had mine for a couple months and i must say, it is a must for the manual cobalts. HUGE difference and so far no problems. It works with all of the stock components and should go in in about an hour or so depending on how quickly you do it, definetely recommend it to all the 2.2 and 2.4's out there. very good and inexpensive mod!

winter it doesnt really feel bad when its cool. but right now in the summer like after i get in my car at work being sitting there in the sun for 9 hours its a little hot. it cools off in like 1 minute when u start driving. it just makes u shift that much faster.

I'm going to look into a shift knob with a lip or knob to grip if you know what i mean. My hands will get a little sweaty and during hard shifts my hand slips but so far thats my only gripe. Definatly a good mod.

When I get it I'm sure I'll figure it out. But the part about cutting for those of you that installed it. Do I cut out the entire squared area out? Like the pic shows, but its not entirely clear.

i saw this part in the direction and kind of cringed! once you do the cutting, will you still beable to install the stock shifter?

Im sure, but the cutting just allows for the extra needed room for the travel of the shifter, when I installed it I tried it without cutting and saw that certain gears couldnt be acheived without cutting that area out. All that area does, from what I could see is provide more support on that plastic peice, But I would assume that the stock shifter could be interchanged with the new one once that peice is cut out, And to answer the "what area to cut" it is the whole square, and when you are doin it just try and make sure that you can reach all of the gears once it is placed into position, once you can shift into every gear then you know that you cut what was needed, its not too difficult when your doing it but hope this helped a little bit

speeking about knobs, does anybody have a preference between the shift knobs? or are they pretty much all the same, just depends on the style you like?

it all depends on how you like to grip your knobs.

i personally do not care what the shift knob is like cuz im not very picky.
