07 install head unit without GMLAN harness?
I have an '07 LTZ sedan. It is bone stock. The stereo has the 6 disc changer, factory Pioneer tweeters & sub, and steering wheel controls. I want to swap the HU for something with BT calling capabilities.
I read the FAQ and I'm confused about the GMLAN vs. non-GMLAN harnesses. If I use a non-GMLAN harness like the Metra 70-2104, what am I going to lose? Is it just the door chime when leaving the door open or pressing the lock button before getting out of the car? Or is there more to it? I assume steering wheel controls, OnStar and XM will not work. I am ok with that, but is there anything else that wont be working? What isn't "plug & play" about this wiring harness? From reading it seems I need to hook up a wake-up signal from a pink AMP wire to the appropriate connection on the HU. Is there anything else? Switched power?
Thanks for any help. It's been a long time since I put a stereo in.

xm and steering wheel controls would be lost either way but if you use the non module harness then onstar and the chimes would be lost. Depending on the radio you put in you may be able to get the accessories to retain steering wheel controls and or xm but thats up to you.
and yes you would need to hook up the remote to the HU as well as switched power to the fusebox. You hit pretty much everything on the head
