08 ss radio to 09 ss usb radio, same connector?
Might buy an 09 ss radio with usb for my 08 ss that has aux only, is the connector the same? Is it plug and play or do i need to have the radio unlocked at a dealer? Thanks!

I put a brand new 2009 model radio with USB, RPO code UUI, into my 2008 Cobalt Sport. The plugs are the same. With my radio being new, it was not VIN locked. It worked immediately, but the radio still needs to be configured by the dealer IF you have the Pioneer speaker system. By default the radio will have its internal amplifier turned on to work with the base 4 speaker system , RPO codeUQ4. With the Pioneer system, RPO code UQ3, the radio gets a different calibration file loaded that disables the internal amplifier. If you don't have the programming done, the radio will work but you will have a little more distortion in the sound, and the volume sensitivity is insane. At like 1/4 volume it will be blaring. At half volume you'd blow your speakers. And the door chime and turn signals are insanely loud.

Hawkssoccer11,
That's good to know. Sounds like that is a gain adjustment for the radio's built in amp. Having it programmed for the correct speakers is the best way though, as that actually bypasses the radios internal amp all together. But if the dealer can't or won't program it, using the radio gain is the next best thing. I'm sitting in the dealer waiting room as I type this, so we'll see if I have to use the gain adjustment or not.

OK, it's all good. Chevy dealer charged me a half hour labor for $63.00. They got it programmed with no problems. Door chimes, turn signal ding, and radio volume are all normal again.

So i tried getting the radio programmed and they said they couldnt match up the part # to my car. Tried tech support, got the alternate # and same issue. Stock radio works fine, the usb 09 radio is still locked. Anyone know how to get around it to unlock the radio?

You need a VIN for the 2009 radio and speakers you have. Obviously that will be the UUI radio with USB for the radio. What speakers do you have, the base 4 speaker non-amplified, or the Pioneer 7 speaker amplified? I went on eBay and found a 2009 SS with the USB radio and the Pioneer speakers since that's what I have and copied the VIN. Give that VIN to the dealer to use for programming the radio. If they try using the VIN for your car, they will never find the right radio option since that radio never came in your car from the factory. Once the tech enters the 2009 VIN in the Tech 2, then he will find the correct radio and speaker settings and can program it for you.
