My new radio is installed! This USB port is really nice. The only problem I have it's the sound level. It's too loud. Somebody have a solution?

Yeah, I think most came with a big knob in the middle that helps with that.

Even on my '09 that came with the USB stock, the volumes are slightly different between AM/FM radio, XM, USB, and the external audio jack.

10% of the volume on the new radio = to 80% on the old one. Even the door chime are too loud.

Yes and the scan tool says that the radio is setup for the Monsoon. Is there a way to configure that option?

bumping this up...I want to put a USB radio into my 08SS (with Pioneer). Anyone know the right part number to purchase so I don't purchase a radio with internal amp and have super loud chimes and turn signals? Is the 20758187 correct?

Bumping this thread..

so i got my 09 SS/TC that had a factory radio ( without USB ) i found a 2010 radio with USB on ebay for 50$, so i swapped it ( took like 5 min ) and took it to the dealer. the radio was initially locked when i turned the car on, ( the display showed " Locked and time " ). so just to try it out i plugged my iphone to see if it would do anything... other then charge, nothing happened. so i took it to the dealer to have it unlocked and they did infact unlocked it, but now the USB doesnt charge nor it recognize the any devices.
i am planning on taking it back to see if maybe they have missed something

will keep you posted.

1 more bump for the new year!

have a 06 LSJ w/ XM & Pioneer sub setup. Plan on purchasing a 09 head unit and giving it a shot. i already have done the aux hardwire and am tired of the lack of abilities.

I've heard the harness is different but i have no problem splicing a harness together. No different than an aftermarket setup to me.
I've heard this will lock up with the computer. I have scanning & launch access but also have no problem going to the dealership to work the PCM out.

Will keep updated!

I'm with JJ on this one, I don't see what's so appealing about this. Just get a good dash kit, wiring harness and integration module, and a good aftermarket radio with all the features you want and be done with it. But I guess to each their own

to update all of you,

went back to the dealer, they made the USB work but now the chime and the volume is soo loud.
this is due to the internal amp that is turned on. will have to go back AGAIN... to get it turned off
haha

other than that
easy swap - love the USB and iphone6

Okay guys, finally got it fixed and working as it should,
the tech let me inside while he was troubleshooting and explained everything to me.

the problem was not with the amplifier but with the software that was loaded onto the radio.
you see, the are simply 2 kind of radios. one w/ usb and one wo/ usb.
but depending on the submodel of your car ss/tc ss/sc ss lt ls etc. the radio has a different software loaded.

this being said, what i did i took the VIN of another 2009cobalt that had the stock radio w/usb and gave it to the tech. then he looked it up and found out the software revision of that radio. he then copied it and loaded into mine. and done!

btw this has nothing to do with unlocking the radio. you still need the vin of the stock car that had the radio.

hope this helps all of you!!

that's what i need, tech told me the same, the internal amplifier.

now how you know when the software was revision?
what was the model of the cobalt you took the vin from? and SS/sport/lt/ltz/basemodels?

I just had a fun idea.

So you guys are looking for Cobalt SS models that had USB, you need VINs

2009 Cobalt Sedan Production Details 4_zpstmr0agij.jpg Photo by buquick | Photobucket

That is the list of Yellow SS Sedans with VINs and it shows if they had USB. So just steal their VIN and give to dealer and said that's the car it came from.

I took a VIN from a 2009 SS/TC that had the Radio w/ usb from the get-co. i only took it because that particular year and submodel was exacly what i have (/w Pioneer Speakers and all)

if your car came with pioneer speakers i believe it should work as well pm me and ill give you the VIN
