3rd Gen Halo's High/Low Beam wiring question...
I tried searching everywhere for this on here but couldn't find anything. But anyways on the 3rd Gen Halos and probably the other Halos as well, when you kick on your high beams your lows which in my case are HID's turn off and just your Halogen highs kick on. On my buddies Acura (which has HID's as well) when he kicks on his high beams his Lows (hid's) stay on and he has both the Highs and Lows on which is bright as hell. Anyone know if this is possible with the cobalt and if so how do you go about doing it.
Also is it bad for your HID's if you are constantly switching between high and low and turning the HID's on and off all the time? Thanks in advance.

One way to surely f**k up your HID's is to turn them on and off all the time.
If your turing on the high's and the lows stay on, like your buddy has then it won't damage them its the on and off that destroy them

What you need is a diode between the low beam and the high beam. It only lets power thorough 1 way so what happens is this....
You turn your lights on (low beam), the ballast gets power and fires up, your hids come on. The diode blocks current from the low beam circuit getting to the high beam circuit so the highs don't light up....this is good when you only want low beams
As soon as you switch to high beam, you loose power on the low beam circuit....but the high beam circuit comes on. The diode allows power from the high beam circuit to pass to the low beam circuit thereby keeping the ballast (and your low beams) powered up. Voila, your lights now work the way any non domestic car does
I'll try to do a quick sketch but be warned....my artistic skills leave a bit to be desired.

Unless you just want to hold the highbeam stick in, if you pull it TOWARDS you then both lights will be on but you have to hold it, its when you push it away and clicks into position only the highs will be on
p.s. sorry for being Captain Obvious if you already knew haha
