Adding extra speakers

So like the title says I'm gonna add some extra speakers to my system. The stock position of them makes it hard to hear with the windows down while driving on the highway. So I am gonna add two more into the doors.

I'm already planning for a sub and amp in the trunk for bass so I don't want to add midbass speakers in the doors. But my real question is should I go with 6.5" or 6x9" in the doors added to the 6.5" that are already there?

IMO you're probably better off with 6.5's. I'm sure emp will chime in here. Haha

Ok I'm also a bit confused. I had planned on adding the two extra door speakers and an amp and one 12" sub in the trunk. I'm gonna use the RCA outs on the head for the amp to power the sub. For the extra door speakers I had figured I could just tap the stock front speaker wires and run the extras off those. But would that be ok? Do I need crossovers and all that?

All I've ever done is added a sub and amp. I'm a bit confused about all of this. Don't mean I can't do it so don't say read up or go to a pro. I just need clarification and a better understanding of this subject.

what speakers do you have? it would be easiest to get better speakers and up the install by adding sound dampening and such

otherwise stick with 2 of the same speakers

"I don't want to add midbass speakers"
Yes you do. You want tweeters, midrange, midbass, and woofer in you car your subwoofer goes in the trunk. if you hook up a crossover to all the other speakers giving each speaker the corret range frequencies you will have an awsome sounding system with very little distortion unless you peak you amp out. pioneers arnt bad their primeer line and stage 4 are awsome not so much the cheaper stuff. but if u spend just a little money they sound awsome. my hole car is pioneer and not one complaint from me or any one that rides in my car. infact i get a lot of compliments.

Well my 6x9s were like $140 for the set. I don't know the model of them but they aren't cheap I know that. But I know the system sounds pretty good as is. I just want more sound in the car cause with the windows down on the highway it drowns it out. So...

ya but how about the fronts? 6X9s are all fine and dandy but really people overspend on them and get cheap fronts when they should do the opposite

The fronts were like $85 for the pair.

Look I don't really give a damn about how much has been or will be spent on this. It's honestly irrelevant. I'm not wanting some audiophiles haven inside my car. I just want speakers arranged in a way so that when I partially roll down my window at 70 I don't have to crank my stereo more then half way to hear it. That's why I figured if there were speakers in the door right beside me pretty much I'd be able to hear it better. Not building a show system here so can y'all just help me out with the issue at hand?

No, I don't want louder. I want sound that isn't getting so easily pushed in a way that it's drowned out. The front speakers are far enough forward to allow them to be drowned out with the wind and when wind is coming in rushing toward the back of the cabin it hinders the sound from the rears from coming forward. So....

have you thought about running a 4 channel amp to you speakers? i have an amp on my pioneer speakers 6x9 in the rear deck and 6.5 components in the door. the amp pushed out 75watts to each speaker and i can hear the m clearly with the windows down.

No cause I've never run two amps off one set of RCA outs.

sure do what you do. its not incredibly loud there with a 3" speaker and tweeter but it improves the overall stage height and sound in general even on most stereo music. 5.1 surround is ******* amazing in this car

First time I bought speakers I actually bought rockford punchs for the front and mb quarts as 6x9s for the rear. Good speakers for only having about 120 in the whole set, of course that was about 8 years ago when I had my Lumina.

Someone has mentioned it but my head unit only has one set of RCA outs. So I would have to buy a new head unit then two amps and subs. I really don't want to buy a new head unit cause I like the one I have.

I'm planning to add them in the doors. Back just about even with the driver and passenger seats.

Try to get speakers that come with a grill then. Otherwise it'll look like crap unless you get a set with a trim ring.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely getting grills with em. Given their location it would be crazy not to put grills on them.
