Aftermarket Alt's
Its been a while since I've been around but I still have my ballt and came across some info I thought I should share.
I search around the site and couldn't really find any new info about getting aftermarket alt's for Cobalts so when I came apon this I figured everyone might want to see it.
This is a return email from Mechmen, about pricing and options for a bigger alt for the Cobalt, this happens to be 2.0L Supercharged but they will make one for most cars from what I herd, the guy at the car audio forum who sent me to them swore up and down that there not re-wound .
Pricing is at the bottom and all you have to do is go to there site and fill out the form and wait a week or so for a reply
Im pretty sure thats cheaper than buying a stock alt, but its been a while so dont quote me on that

Those vehicles have a pretty low idle speed, and a relatively small crank pulley, so I generally recommend either the 170 amp or the 240 amp S series unit if you want really good output below 800 engine RPM. The 320 amp unit starts making good output at about 800 rpm engine speed. All three units are pretty much indestructible, even in hot climates. All the S series units feature our twin heavy duty internal rectifiers, oversize charge post, billet aluminum overdrive pulley, hairpin stator, and 12 massive diodes. Also, on all of our Ecotec units, we utilize a self exciting internal regulator. This means that you leave your OEM alternator plug disconnected, which bypasses the PCM control of the charging voltage. While this does result in the check battery light being on in the dash, it is the only way to get the full potential amperage, and maintain a steady charging voltage. We include a 2 year warranty, and a 1/0 gauge cable connection with every unit. You can learn more about what makes these units so special here:

No, it doesn't throw a CEL it throws a battery light, seperate, there is a guy on Realm of Excursion running a mechman 320 on a G5 and he only has a battery light. Also for the record you can get alts from DC Power and OhioGenerator.

Running a used stock one for now but it is the 110 amp instead of the base 90, got it from a local junk yard for $50... Whenever I get time I am gonna run my big 3 in 00G, I got 50ft for $60 and it is OFC. Already done all my amp wiring in it and I have to say this thing is thick! This Friday Diyma.com is having another half off sale on all their FA old stock and I was thinking of picking up a couple more rolls.Diyma Details Linky.
