Aftermarket deck installation
I have a 07 cobalt ss with pioneer audio. I'm looking to switch my stock deck to an aftermarket one. What other pieces will i need to buy with the deck? I was talking to a guy and he was mentioning a data retention module, and new harness. Will those be needed?

I am no audio expert; I have an Avic920BT in my Redline; it needed a double din bracket and installation harness get those from Crutchfield; it works awesome; and I did not put it in. I had Coppertop do it, he is an expert. I run Infinity speakers and drive it with the oem premium system amplifier. I am sure ( I did try a boom box for a day in the trunk) I could do better as Coppertop said I dont know jack about audio, and the music i listen to is wrong for the 125 pounds of massive speaker in the trunk I tried. 125 lbs? Thats about a tenth in the `1320 lol.
so I was happy and sold the boat anchor boom box to a 17 yearold son of a friend... he is happy and blows his door speakers out regularly.
But seriously the Pioneer AVIC decks are very good and the Infinity speakers are primo!!

It depends on if you want a single or double din head unit. Then you get the corresponding installation kit. You'll also need the wiring harness and antenna adapter. I install them myself. It's not very hard. The wires are color coded. And the module he was talking about, is to keep the factory chimes. I thought I needed one and it turned out I didn't. So I bought one without the module. But I have an 06 cobalt. So I don't know if the 07 will need it or not.

double din is the large roughly 8 inch radio opening like you see in Cobalts and Ions. Single din is the older style roughly 2 or 3 inch opening for a thinner radio. Thats the extent of my audio knowledge pretty much Hope I am right. lol

The DD looks more at home. Here is a good unit for the price point.
Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD 6.1" Touchscreen DVD/USB/MP3 Car Receiver
Sonic also gives you some accessories for free. Here is mine...

U need a bracket kit for ur car, a module to retain chimes and turn signal sounds, ect. Forget what one I have. U can also get a steering wheel control module to keep ur buttons functional on steering wheel, and no u do not need a data retention module, if its what I thin it is. I'm assuming he means the thing to retain the display of mpg, temp and all that that some Gm cars display on the radio, cobalt displays it by the gauges so if that's what u mean, u don't need that
