Question Aftermarket Head Unit and XM Help...

When I put a deck in my cobalt (xm compatible) can I somehow use the antenna thats on it already or do I have to buy the xm kit for the deck and wire it up myself?

you have to buy an xm tuner box for the deck, with an xm subscription. The good news is that the factory antenna has the standard plug on it so you can plug that into your xm tuner box, and not have to run the antenna that comes with it.
