AFTERMARKET PART NUMBERS (05-06 Cobalts)

Many people have been mislead by Vendors on our "slim options" when it comes to upgrading our sound system. They will state that:
"the Cobalt uses the new GM-LAN system in the vehicle unlike the previous generation of GM vehicles, so you need a $120 harness to mantain a number of functions"
THIS IS NOT ALL TRUE
**ONLY IF YOU HAVE ONSTAR AND WANT TO KEEP IT**
ANY Cobalt system (05-06, LS,LT,LTZ,SS/NA/SS/SC, WITH OR WITHOUT 7 SPEAKER PIONEER SYSTEM) will still work using this:

metra 70-2103 <------ wiring harness
metra 95-3302 <------- single din dash kit
metra 95-3303 <-------double din dash kit
Metra 40-GM10 <-------GM Antenna Adapter

2007+ Cobalts....thats a $200 harness from what I hear.

wow, no option but to relocate the radio to the trunk for the 2007, man no love there.

i'll cut the plugs out before i shell out another $200 just to here a ding when my door is open

guess i'll just drive around for a day or 2 without a radio at all plugged in and see if i'm missing anything other than the dings

No offense but that isn't actually very accurate information. Yes it is true that you can hook up your radio like that but it doesn't mean it's correct. If you are not using the correct interface your ECM will read a constant error message. That can cause problems when it comes time to service the vehicle. Boys and girls the parts wouldn't be in production if they weren't meant to be used. Why would a company go out of there way to manufacture something people didn't need, they would just be wasting time and money. Now i'm not sure of the metra part number for 05-06s but if you are looking the harness the Scosche part number is GM13B. If you want to verify this for yourself give them a call, the number is 1-800-621-3695 ext 3 for tech support. For those of us with the 07s I do have the metra numbers, for premium systems is the GMOS-LAN-04, non premiums is the GMOS-LAN-03, and again if you would like info feel free to call Metra, I don't have their number on hand but do the research if you don't believe me. These harnesses do more than just provide a little ding
