I have 1 kicker solobaric L5 12" and it pounds almost as hard as my 2 15" rockfords did and also sounds way cleaner, My aunt has the same L5 but 10" in her G6 GXP and it pounds hard too......If you want trunk space and still great performance, go with one of these, if not, I had friends with 2 12" CVR's and one with 2 10" CVRs and the pound too but IMO I think my 12 sounds louder/better, these subs were in cavys too.... but, the solobarics come with a bigger price tag....
Alpine... Ive heard some pound and some that sound horrible....box size/positioning plays a big role with alpine I find, I have a friend with a camaro with 2 15" type Rs that sounded like 1 10" Jenson(he had the HUGE 1000watt alpine amp running them...) but had another friend make 2 10" type R's sound like 4 15's in a hatchback in a rear firing box.... Every set up with kicker sounded awsome......

you have to go jl all the way... its a little more costly but its sooo worth it. i have two 12" W7's and they BUMP. i wouldnt get two twelves again tho your good with two 10's or even one 15"

My first system was 1 12" JL W0 w/ a 400w alpine amp, and for being the lowest model JL sub, it actually put out.... JL has some amazing sounding subs.... I have never heard a W7 yet tho.... i wouldnt mind hearing one

hmmm...i dno. I would have to say type x, L7's, W7's,etc are all in the same class... I cant see your 10 hitting harder unless your L7 was underpowered....what kind of amp were you using???

lets just say i can't turn my JL's all the way up. i ride around with them at about 1/4 sub and 3/4 bass and its still pretty strong. whenever i actually try to show it off...there are alot of **** around here that think their system is the best... i still only turn it up to about 3/4 sub and full bass and they pretty much **** their pants. if you want a quality sound and feel id say go JL but if your looking for something cheaper but still sounds okay id go alpine.

I have two kicker comp cvr12's dual voicecoil...I will always stand by kicker! BTW.. bridged the voicecoils from 4 ohm to 2 ohm and then ran it down to 1 ohm into the amp.

With the kickers you will get volume over quality and the CVR's will be probably about half the price of the R-types.
The alpine R-Types will get loud probably nearly as loud (probably even beyond if set up and powered correctly) as the CVR's but will stay alot cleaner under most conditions.
You also have to look at the amp that you will be putting them on. The Alpine R-Types will want about 500W RMS while the CVR's are rated from 50-400W RMS.
Over all the alpine in my opinion is a better sub, but if money is an issue or power is an issue than go with the CVR which is not a bad sub either.
The speaker itself is usually said to be only 10% of how your bass with sound. The most important component is the enclosure what ever the case may be sealed, ported, free air, or bandpass. Coming in a close second is your amplifiers with the proper charging system. With out these two even the greatest of subs will sound like a wet fart and the worst of subs can be made to sound half decent. There were a bunch of articals in some car audio mags about a guy who had a whole legacy system and was winning sound quality compititions because he was a genious when it came to sound wave tuning, projection, and direction.

I'm using the same amp on the alpine as i was the L7 15. its a mtx thunder8100D 1500W RMS monoblock. Now the solobaric moved some serious air, i could feel the the air sucking past me. the alpine doesn't have the massive air movement but it makes my ears pop my cheezy db meter with my bassmekanic v5.0 track 19 was 128.7 with the L7 and 129.3 with the alpine.
they are close but the alpine is just a little louder. not saying the kicker can't be just in my setup its not.

oh yeah they are great speakers, i'm plotting on putting the l7 15 into my blazer. I think it should be louder in the blazer than in the trunk of the car. i'm a little tight on funds at the moment so i have to wait....

Yeah, i had my 15s in my truck before, debating on puting them back in....My truck is just kinda a toy right now and when i go out with it, i usally have it filled up with buddies and girls so I would rather find something smaller that can fit under the rear seats.... I need to upgrade my high end in my car because i have the amp only turn up half way and these stock pioneers still have a hard time keeping up, but the high end in my truck was crazy, my 15s were crank , amp was about 90-95% turned up and they had a hard time keeping up..... you could only turn the stereo up about half way....the only time i turned it all the way up was at partys, etc.... even with no bass, the high notes would make your ears pop.....
