amp keeps going into protect mode

so after about 5-10 minutes of listening at high volumes (greater than 50/62) the amp going into protect mode until i turn it down for literally 3-5 seconds and then it comes back on.....

i checked my manual for the amp and it says:
-speaker wire may be short circuited
-speaker output contacts ground
-unit malfunctions and a DC signal is sent ot the speaker output
-internal temperature gets to high
-ground wire of the center unit or amp is not connected

i checked my ground and it is good, but on my headunit wire harness there was 2 grounds, one on the aftermarket harness and one on the radio... i only have the one from the harness grounded, but everything is working.....

my speaker wires are good and brand new

the amp gets a little warm to the touch but seems ok

speaker wires are not contacting ground or vise versa

so im only left to that one ground wire, or a DC signal... whatever that is

that means that either you have it bridged down to low..... or ..... well that should be the only reason if everything else is good..... what kinda amp?

It could be the radio. Play it too loud and it starts to clip.

Dose everything work fine when its turned down?

no when i have it loud the subs do not distort or clip, and they arent blown because the amps power light turns off but this blue light stays on which means it goes into protect mode

the amp is a kenwood kac8104 mono, i have it wired at 2ohms, which it is stable at

turn down the gain. is the amp hot to the touch? your hand is warm so when you touch and its warmer than your hand, may be overdriving the amp. how many subs?

They might not distort or clip b/c the amp catches the clipping before it gets to your subs and sends it into protect. I know at lower ohm loads that amp doesn't perform well, even if its within its recommended loads.

Sounds like you got a bad ground to me and if you keep putting it into protect mode one day it will burn out. Try grounding it to something else.

where would be a good place to ground it?

any bolts or something back there, i have it right now on that black bracket holding down the rear seats

i think im going to try grounding it directly to my battery...... if that doesnt work, i guess im out of luck

yea thats probably what is it, the ground cant keep up with the power at high volumes so it goes into protection to stop from overheating and blowing

then after a few seconds it cools and comes back on, then i turn it back up and it does the same thing

where is it grounded now and did you take any paint off when you grounded it? If not then that might be the problem.

Let us know

the black bracket isnt mounted/welded to the car so even taking off the paint isnt going to do anything. theres probably more resistance in that ground then you can imagine. im sorta surprised it even really works

I had a system years ago that used to do the exact same thing. I'd crank it up, bump for a few mins and it'd go into protect. Does your amp match/exceed your sub ratings? Cuz my problem was too much of an under powered amp for the subs. Put in a new amp with higher power and never had the problem again. it's always better to turn an amp half way up to power the subs than to max it out and only half power your subs
