Amps and other works
OK ive looked around the search button but no dice
I was given a 12 in JL audio W3 subwoofer. yesterday i spent 20 bucks and bought a sealed box for it.
I have a 2003 VW GTI so I dont need much. I dont like the whole car rattling apart but I do like loud music. the car has 8 speaker monsoon upgrade from factory.
JVC Headunit.
I need an amp for the sub. but Im not sure if I should put a 4channel to the stock speakers.
What would be a good amp for the little car but enough to power that sub? Btw I listen to a lot of hard crisp beats. not hip hop or rap where its blended.i listen to EBM. industrial. trance music
any opinions?

i dont think you will need a 4 channel amp since you already have 8 speakers stock...
I would just get a mono (1 channel) amp to power the sub, also my buddy has the same car and he has 2 12's with 1000rms and it doesn't rattle at all

JL makes me lol with those retarded proprietary resistance values on their coils....
I wouldn't touch the monsoon setup either to be honest, you'll end up taking two steps back instead of one forward....
throw us some RMS values and how many coils / what resistance etc.

thanks for the replies.
Im not to sure bc the sub was given to me.
just bought a 12in sealed box for the JL audio W3.
thinking about a rockford fosgate amp. but im open to other suggestions
fyi i listen to ebm and all sorts so it is a lot of sharp bass beats. not like rap or hip hop.
why i went with a sealed box.

Should say right on the bottom of the magnet.
I run 2 w3. Great subs IMO. It will be good for that type of music. I'm not an audio guru, but I do know you can beat the **** out of those subs and they hold up. Had them for a few years and W0's before that. Now my buddy uses them. Don't be afraid to use a higher RMS rated amp if you come across a good deal. I think I'm running almost double what those subs are rated for without an issue, and it's been years.
Some people hate JL. I personally love their amps and subs. I may pay a little more, but I know it aint going to break. Worth the extra money to me. Plus it looks like their prices have gone down since I've bought anything new.

it was a joke....at least my response was....try and scoop stuff like rockford, arc audio, zapco, sundown, infinity, JL...people sell them cheap sometimes when the piece is worth alot...mainly because 90% of the **** on craigslist is stolen.

alpine is a nice start. make sure you MAKE him test it or you can bench test it yourself on the spot. Alot of people I've bought from try to pull this **** where they're like "ok here you go"...they try to hand you an amp and run. don't let them do that to you. make sure ALL the functions on the amplifier work correctly before you purchase it.

power it on. ground the ground terminal, put 12 v to both the remote and the 12v+ terminal then hook up the signal wires (RCA) to the amp, then hookup the speaker wires.
