any one else noticed how terrible the cobalt is for sound?

Well heres the story Ive had two different setups now(old one got stolen) and niether of them sound anywhere close to where they should be. The car has full dynomatt on the floor, rear deck, trunk, door speaker area, and the are of the roof not occupied by the sunroof. Still rattles like crazy though, and the rear side windows and rear windshield move like they are just gonna pop out. You can stand out side the car and watch the windows move out about a good quarter to a half inch, and it even does it when i crack the sunroof open. What doesnt make sense is even with my less powerfull set i have now it didnt really change the vibrating and stuff much. Is there something im missing here or does the cobalt just suck for sound?

My current setup is

2 mtx 4500 12" subs
a kicker 600watt monoblock
a kicker 50x4 for the highs
alpine type r components in the front
alpine type r 6x9s in rear
Panasonic Head unit
Alpine sound processor

Old setup

2 Alpine type r 12" subs
2 Alpine 600watt monoblocks
a Alpine 75x4
same speakers
Alpine dvd headunit
alpine sound processor

It all depends on the shape of the interior belive it or not. The absolute BEST cars to do any sterio work with is the 2nd gen F Bodies. The shape of the rear of the car is just like an ampitheater. 2 6x9 sound like you have a set of 12's in the trunk! You can not beat them for how they direct the sound towrd the driver and front passenger.

Maybe you meant the 3rd generation F-bodies? 1982-1992?

I'll agree with that.

I have a 2nd generation, 1971 Camaro and I don't think it has very good acoustics for a sound system.

almost any hatch back will sound 10 times better then a coupe (my 89 camaro sounds awesome)the trunk is totaly open the the passenger area...but the cobalt just sucks for acoustics is the conclusion ive come to

Nope 2nd gen. Thats what the guys at County Car Audio and Car Sounds all told me.
Also a friend of mine who used to do compitions for sterio's said too.

If you have a 2nd gen look how the rear of the car is shaped and how the rear deck is angled. The whole rear of the car is like it was built to channel sound to you.

Mine sounds awesome inside it pounds. but outside it sounds like ****. I checked it out the other day and my trunk lid, spoiler, panels in the back seat all rattle. I always leave my seats folded down it just makes it sound better inside.

I didnt check, but maybe the thread starter is not in an SS/SC?

When I had my Base-balt, the sound system was HORRIBLE, but when I upgraded, the difference was so big that I have absolutely no need at all to do anything to the stock set up.

Premium sound =

I think partially it might also have to do with how you tuned your system. Where abouts is your box tuned to or is it sealed? If you have a layer of sound deadener down and everything still is rattling, maybe you just need to turn the radio down before your ears adjust to that volume permanetly.

I've added a 12" Treo in a ported box that is tuned to roughly 35hz and I think my system sounds clean enough. I taped the rear child seat covers down so they don't rattle and I put a small piece of tan colored fleece up by the sunroof switch so it won't rattle either.

Nope my balt is the ss/sc with the factory pioneer stuff but it sounded like crap. I had it changed out for something diff three days after i bought it new. I use a sealed box dont like how ported boxes sound. I think the car just absorbs to much of the sound compaired to my other cars cuz with my old setup b4 it got stolen i have the same thing in one of my other cars and the cobalt is no where near as loud or clear.

I guess that explains why the stereo in my 76 Trans Am sounded so great. All it had was a Clarion head, I can't remember if it even had an amp, pioneer rear 6x9s and the small front speakers. It was my first car and I was more easily impressed back then but I remember that it hit pretty hard for what it was.
